Gas Prices Rising and Why?

Why are the gas prices rising? During the coronavirus people were in their homes and not going out or anything, so the gas companies lowered their prices so the people would come and but gas. Last April the national average for all grades fell below $2 a gallon for the first time in four years. Now the prices are rising very fast, the prices went up more than 25 cents a gallon nationwide in the last month to an average $2.68 for regular. The reason for the gas prices going up is because the gas companies lost a lot of money during 2020, so now they need to gain most of the money they lost.

Since the cancellation of Keystone XL Pipeline, which was done by Joe Biden, the gas prices skyrocketed. That pipeline provided a direct route from Alberta, Canada and Steele City, Nebraska and sent 830,000 barrels a day. The pipeline construction being canceled caused less gas to come and then that lead to the higher geas prices. I think that the prices going up is not very smart, because the more the price goes up I think people will not want to get gas and spend more. So people won't drive and spend more and gas companies still lose money, it's almost like a lose, lose situation.

Then, The gas prices going up is trying to make money so the workers can make money for their families and more money for the companies. The supply of gas is low right now and sice more people are leaving their home they need gas. The comes the demand for gas and since the gas is low there for the gas prices have to rise because od the high demand for it. There are some good reasons for the gas prices to rise, but I don't really think the companies will make more money this way, because the higher the prices go the less people will want to drive. Therefore less cars being used and then nobody is using gas and the gas companies will lose more money.

What do you think about the rise in prices?

How do you think the situation should be handled ?

  • NI have noticed gas prices rising and I've ear a couple of people complaining about it, but it doesn't affect me because I don't drive. I don't think people will stop driving over this, gas prices have been going up ever since driving became a thing, this isn't new. People will be upset, yes, but I don't think they'd do that.

  • Obviously, no one likes having to pay more, but it hasn't been a huge issue for me. I don't agree that people won't drive because of increasing gas prices. Driving is such a normal part of life for most people. I don't know how it could be handled presently.

    • I agree, I think it's dramatic to say you won't be driving over gas prices rising because that is inevitable. That has been going on for decades, and we just have to deal with it, unfortunately. It's annoying to see gas prices rising, but we can't control that, so well, I guess.

  • I really haven't had much thought to this. I haven't been overly mad about the pricing. I just pay it and move on. I feel the media is getting into some people's heads. Everyone seems to be complaining about the gas prices but isn't getting all the information.

  • I don't think that the gas price rising is a big deal at all. Naturally people are going to drive less in the warmer weather. I also think that the gas companies should rise the prices so that they don't go into mega debt. I also don't think they are going to lose that much money by people being discouraged to drive. Many people have to drive to wear they are going. I think that things should just stay the same as they are going now.

  • Like many other people, I am not that happy about the gas prices going up so high recently. I personally have spent more money on gas this week then any other time in my life. I understand why the gas prices are going up. I think even when they are really high people will still continue to pay for it, because people need gas to get around. I think it is a good way for companies and the government to gain money, but I am not a fan of how high the prices are.

    • I agree, there are some reasons behind it, like covid. But like you, I feel like companies know that people won't stop going around with their cars even if their prices are really high, so they don't do much about it, they probably aren't  that interested in lowering the prices.

  • I think that Joe Biden needs to reopen the keystone pipeline because I think that is what caused this. The prices are getting to be too high and I think they will get much higher. Something needs to be done by the government to insure that gas prices will return back down.

    • I agree

  • I don't want gas prices to raise anymore than they have, if the gas rises anymore there will be people who quit buying it.
