Friendly tiger found in Houston suburb

The local Police Department says it started getting calls Thursday about a tiger spotted wandering the streets of a town called Conroe, near Houston, Texas. The feline was captured with a collar and a leash, the cat's front claws had been removed. The Police Department posted pictures of the animal on Facebook to find it's owner.

Police Sgt. Kevin Johnson told CNN on Friday the female tiger was evacuated from a near by rescue farm because of intense flooding this week. It's handler gave it to a person in Conroe who was not prepared to take care of the animal - and it escaped.

Erin Poole said her boyfriend Jonathan Gessner got out of the car and said "I'm going to go catch it." She said the tiger assumed a pouncing position behind a bush and she was scared it was going to attack, but what happened next was a surprise. "When it started running toward me and it jumped on me and started licking me in the face, I started playing with it and petting it and everything," Gessner said.

Police in Conroe say they know where the animal belongs, but relocation hasn't happened yet.

How would you react if you saw a tiger wandering the streets around your house?

Do you think it's a good idea to have a wild animal as a pet, like a tiger? Why or why not?

If i saw a tiger wandering around I would probably think that it's wild and call the police right away and stay away from it. The man that found it was lucky the tiger was nice and played with him. I've heard stories about people keeping wild animals in their house that have killed them, but this animal seems to be very tame, and safe. I think it would be fun to have a pet tiger because they're cute.

  • Good overall but all of your replies were done on April 28th. You should try to comment three different days.

  • I would be curious and somewhat frighten by the seen, but would still try and take pictures of the seen from my house. No, because they usually belong in the wild they aren't meant to be in domesticated areas or become domesticated they would rather be in the wild than in a cage or domesticated place.

  • i would be very scared knowing how dangerous these animals can be. i think it would be the best to keep them in there natural habit but i dont see why it would be so bad to have a tiger as a pet if there trained and the owner is educated about tigers.

    • Hopefully the owner that did have this pet knew what they were doing and knew a lot about tigers, that would make them more prepared for what the tiger could do.

  • I would be scared and probably call the police to do something about it. I don't think that it is a good idea to have a wild animal for a pet because you never know when the thing may attack you even though it is always nice.

    • I agree, a wild animal like that could turn on you at any time.

  • I would be so scared if I just saw a tiger running around because I know these animals could be very dangerous. I don't think having wild animals as pets because they could hurt someone at any time

  • I would be very scared because I wouldn't know if it was angry or nice. I don't think it's smart to have a wild animal as a pet. It doesn't deserve to people held captive like that and most people don't know how to handle an animal like that.

    • I agree, it's not fair to the tiger. They should have space and be able to wander freely.

  • I would first think that I'm hallucinating and then if I saw it again I would call the police. I don't think a tiger should be kept as a pet. They belong in their natural habitat in the wild or in a well kept zoo.
