On Friday morning, former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger broke down into tears when she testified in her own defense. She began crying because she recalled approaching her neighbor Botham Jean's door before fatally shooting him. Amber said the reason she had killed Jean was because she thought the apartment was hers and when she walked in, she thought Jean was an intruder. The reason she had thought it was her own door is because she said she had just got off a 13 hour shift and was very tired. Some believe Guyger's story and that she is innocent, but others believe she shot him because she is white and Botham Jean was black.

Questions

1. Do you think that Amber Guyger is innocent, and why?

I think that she is innocent, I think that it was just a long tiring day for her and she made a mistake and walked into the wrong apartment and did not bother to look at the apartment number.

2. If Guyger is proven innocent, do you think she will get her job back, and why?

I think that this whole police vs. racism has just gone to far and I doubt she will get her job back because that may just start up more protests.

  • Well done Nathan! Good topic choice!

  • I think she is innocent because working that long could make someone unaware of what's going on around them. She might have believed he was an inturder and fought back in self denfese. I don't think she'd get her job back because protestors could do something harmful to her.

    • I agree, I do not thik she will get her job back.

  • I think she is innocent I think she made a mistake and walked in the wrong apartment and she should have look at he number first.

    • I agree, also if it was her apartment, why wouldn't it be locked.

  • I think she is guilty because no matter what if you had a long day, you shouldn't be making mistakes. Because that mistake ended a inocent life and close relatives and friends to the person. Because if she used that and is innocent then more people can use that excuse. I do not think she will get a job back, she might but won't be able to carry a gun or any weapon so could do an office job or parking enforcer,

    • I agree, I don't get why the first thing she would do is pull out her gun and start firing.

    • I do agree that the mistake she made was terrible. Someone doesn't have a brother to visit, a father to come home to for Christmas. Someone no longer has a friend to cry on or go out and have a beer with on the weekends. The loss of a life is devastating and yet we see things like this. It can be desensitizing. If she is not found guilty I seriously hope she's not allowed to carry a gun. 13 hours without sleep is basically nothing. I, a student, regularly have 15 hour days. If 13 hours got her that out of it then she should never have been given a weapon in the first place.

  • I do not think she should be innocent if i read the paragraph right she walked into the wrong apartment and shot the person in it because she thought it was an intruder. It may have been a mistake but she cant bring the person she shot back to life. She will probally not get her job back because of the case and what she did cant be taken back.

    • I agree, she can't just say sorry and everything is all over with, she needs to be punished.
