8th grade middle school teacher Diane Tirado age 52 was fired from West Gate kindergarden throught 8th grade school in Port St.Lucie in south Flordia after she had been working there for just two months. For this school they have a no zero policy that Tirado is said to have been failing after a group of students failed to hand in one of ther first mjor assignments of the schoo year, This is what ended in Dianes unemployment. The assignment that ruined Tirandos career was for students to keep an explorers notebook for two weeks in the same way a 15 century explorer kept there journal during there time period. Diane claims that parents complained to her that it was to much work for there kids to handle. I got called down to the principles office becaue parents were not happy with me. Tirado said in an interview, she said during this meeting the principle informed her of the alleged no zero policy and that she was not allowed to give anything lower a 50%. But after a group of students didn't hand in any work she didn't feel they deserved any credit and gave them a zero. Tirado was fired on Sept 14.
If you were a teacher of this school and new of the policy would you still give students zeros knowing of the consequenc
Do you think its right that way this school dosent let kids get zeros on assignments even if they deserve it

I probably would because it is what they deserve and if I get fired oh well. I think that you should be able to give them zeros because id you give them credit for stuff they didn't do then they will expect that later in life instead of knowing the real consequences.
1. I would definetly want to but I would value my job more than my ego or pride. In my mind I see them as lucky for not being able to get zeros. But at the same time if the students deserve the zeros they should get it. That teaches the students that " Oh even if I dont do this or dont turn this in ill be all honky dorry." when in real life that kind of thing doesn't slide. They should be able to get zeros because that teaches them disipline.
2.No I do not! Those kids are not learning disipline! There needs to be consiquences for not having your work done instead of just letting the kid's think that slacking and not caring is okay!
If I was a teacher there I would wait to see if the students would even turn in their late work. I wouldn't just flat out give them a zero. I don't think it's right because the students could take advantage and never turn in their work to the teachers.
I would most likely want to keep my job so instead of giving them zeros I would just ask them to get it turned in and try to get it in on time. I think this policy should not be a thing at a school because if you don’t get your work done then it should be a zero in the grade book.
No, I would not give the kids zeros because I would not want to be fired. If there was a no zero policy, I think teachers should figure out they are going to be in trouble if kids get a zero. If kids turned in an assignment late, but still put a little effort into it and turned it in, I don't think there should be any problems with zeros.
Regardless of my opinion on the policy I would not give students zeros becasuse I would want to keep my job. I do not think that it is right to not give zeros someone can do nothing and still get half points which is unfair to the people the actually do the assignemnts.
I probably wouldn't be able to not care about the consequences and just give the students a zero. However, I do think the students deserve a zero. If they don't do the work, why should they get any credit. I don't like this school policy.
yes I would because the students need to learn how get there work done, if they dont they would be very likey to not know what they are talking about. I think it is a dumb rule cause then kids would not know what to do on there test and they would not learn anything if they did not want to.
If I was a teacher I would give them zeros until they hand it in. However this school should not have the rule because it's just helping the students who don't want to do work
