Explosion at a California Cheesecake Factory

On Thursday evening a man tossed an explosive device into a Pasadena Cheesecake Factory, making diners run, and sparking a police search. The device filled the restaurant with heavy smoke, but no one was injured. Pasadena Police described the device as a "homemade pyrotechnic device."  The witnesses described the man as a "male of Hispanic or Middle Eastern descent with a heavy beard and was wearing all black with a beanie."  The federal authorities have been notified "out of an abundance of caution."

Questions

1. How would you react during this situation?

2. Would you go back to this restaurant after this has happened?

3. Why do you think the man did this?

I would be terrified in this situation, and I would most likely run out of the building. I wouldn't go back to this exact restaurant for a while, just because I'd be scared that it would happen again. I believe the man did this because he doesn't believe in our culture, and just wanted to harm people, because those aren't his beliefs.

  • Excellent job Kenzie! Be sure to include a hyperlink to your story.

  • I would be very scared but then try to get my family and I out of the restaurant as soon as possible. I would eventually go back into the restaurant if I knew it was safe. And I think that the man that did this probably had a personal problem with someone or something in the restaurant so that is how he tried to solve his problem which isn't smart.

  • If I was in this situation I would be very scared and nervous at the same time. I would probably help people get out of the building safely. I wouldn't go back in the restaurant right away I would probably wait a little while. I think this guy did it because he was mad at something.

  • I would be pretty scared and terrified if something like that happened to me, I most likely would run away and out of the building as fast as possible. Gladly nothing serious happened and that guy was just trying to scare people, he didn't really harm anyone physically just mentally. I guess he did it to scare people and make a statement like he did have the power to kill people in there but he decided not to.

  • I would have bee so scared and would have been booking out of the building. I don't think I would go back right away. It would probably take me so time to be able to go back in there after that. I think that this man could have been from one the of seven countries that President Trump has tried to put a travel ban on, and in my opinion I think he could have been trying to make a point that it doesn't matter if he puts a ban because some bad people are already over here.

    • That's a very good thought that he could have been from one the seven countries, and maybe he was angry about it, and trying to prove a point, and that is a very point. I also think that you would react like anyone else which is very normal.

  • I would have tried to get out as quickly as possible and help people as best as I could. I probably would go back to the restaurant eventually but not for a while. He probably did it because he was angry or displeased for an unknown reason.

    • I agree he most likely did it because he was angry.. and I would have thought it was a bomb also, but I'm sure everyone was very thankful that it was just smoke and nothing more. It would take me awhile to go back also.

  • I would be scared because at the time you wouldn't really be aware of what is going on and if it poses as any threat. Your initial thought would be to run. I would because I doubt something like that would happen again in that location. He must've done it to scare the diners.

    • I agree anyone would be scared during this, and wouldn't really know what to do in this situation, but yes the initial thought would be to run. I agree I don't think that it would happen again in the same restaurant. I believe he did it to scare diners, or maybe even the owners.
