Evolution-?Is it real?-?should it be taught?

In biology, evolution is the change in the characteristics of a species over several generations and relies on genetic variation.

So the first question is, is evolution real??

Biologists consider it to be a scientific fact that evolution has occurred and that modern organisms differ from past forms. It's said that Fossils can’t prove that one species evolved from another, but when over time slight modifications occur through the fossils the reality of evolution is hard to deny.Looking at the record of whale evolution that has been preserved in fossils. In the past few decades it has been found that whales has noticable change of fossils bone structre. The oldest known whales the "Pakicetus whale" from around 49 million years ago, looked like land mammals and had ears similar to those of modern whales. This strongly suggests adaptations for hearing under water. Undoubtedtly with this given evidence evolution is real but to what extent? Land mammal adapted to water creature, or monkey to man.

Lasty, should it be taught in school??

Evolution is widely conflicting with many peoples beliefs and even somes religion, therefore making it touchy and slightly controversial as a topic to be taught to kids. Not only touchy is it but there really isn't enough facts over it to teach it as something that will be caried and preached for generations to come.

Personally I think it is undeniably real though only to a certain extent not as extreme as some may belive. I dont belive it should be taught just yet in schools, more research and evidence is needed.

So what do you think?

-Do you think evolution is real??

-Should it be taught in schools??

  • Good topic choice Ian! Your summary is good but I would like to see more of your thoughts and opinions outside of a sentence or two. You did a pretty good job commenting back to students. Be sure to reply back on three different days and say more than just "Facts", which you did several times. -10 late

  • I think that evolution is sumwhat already taught in schools through science programs. I dont have any problem with schools teaching it because to me it is just another lesson that we lear in class. I also think that their is no reason why it should not be able to be taught in school.

  • Based on the facts that have been given in not just other animals, but humans as well, I believe evolution is real. It doesn't make sense that only other animals have been able to evolve, whereas humans somehow just ended up here out of nowhere. Even now, recent studies have shown that we are slowly evolving to no longer having wisdom teeth. Evolution should be taught in school. It's just like any other science class. No one freaks out over those, so why should people or parents get mad if we're taught about evolution? It should be up to the students whether or not they believe in evolution for whatever reason.

    • I like your thoughts on this, I agree it could be taught in the near future it would be interesting to see how states would safely and correctly incorporate such a topic into everyday school coriculum

  • From my time in Biology class, I can concur that evolution is, in fact, a real thing. This is supported by a multitiude of different factors--fossils and how they compare with existing animals bone structure, similarities in genetic make up between different animals, vestigal traits from evolution that we no longer require but still have for what ever reason, such as the hind legs of a whale or the appendix, and lastly a similarity between the phenotypes of different creatures. I could go into a plethora of different things I learned about evolution in 9th grade biology but I'll stuck with the simple stuff for now.

    • thanks for staying simple because im not very smart and got confsed reading that

  • I personally do not believe in evolution for some religious reasons. But I think it is necessary to talk about evolution at school and everyone will decide for themselves whether it is real or not.

    • I agree it should be talked about in school but your religous reasons for not believing it are why it being taught in school concerns me

  • In my opinion there is enough evidence to prove that evolution in real and that humans have evolved in some way or another. I think that teachers/ school can decide if they want to teach evolution because it shouldn't be a controversial topic.

    • I agree there is but it is actually suprising contreverial it goes against many peoples regigous beliefs
