The Equal Pay Bill is a bill that will help close the space between the pay difference of what men and women are being paid for work. This bill was passed on Thursday by the House Democrats, but it is looking like it will not be getting passed / having a slight possibility by the Republicans in the Senate.
This bill is becoming the longest running debate on equality of pay between men and women, and it seems like the government is making sure of it. In the past there have also been some other acts passed to help this, such as the Fair Pay Act by Former President Barack Obama that helps protect against pay discrimination and allows people who face this to be able to change that.
Let’s talk about what the equal pay bill can do : 1. It would make it easier to sue the employer because of pay discrimnation, 2. It would make it easier for businesses to see that this is important, along with a new requirement that states that businesses have to send in their pay data to the federal government to show that they are using these laws, and 3. It would also be able to ban the employers from prohibiting them from discussing their own salaries to others.
Lastly, like I said before, this bill is looking like it is not going to get passed. In the article it states, “Republicans say laws already on the books outlaw pay discrimination.” For example, Republican Micheal Burgess stated, “wage discrimination has no place in any society.” But he said the Democrats' bill wasn't the right way to go about correcting those wrongs.””

I personally dont beilve in "equal pay" I think people should get paid determined on what kind of job they are doing. Take the wnba and the nba, the wnba players make a lot less money compared to the nba but this is because the nba creates a lot more money and fans then the wnba does. Suply and demand If a women can do the job better then the man then they should get more pay same way if the roles were reversed. Equal pay bill will just enable women instead of making them work harder.
I disagree with you. Female athletes within the WNBA are putting in the same amount of time, work, and effort as male athletes within the NBA and they should be payed equally. The only reason that the NBA makes more money than the WNBA is beause historically society has put more emphasis and importance on male sports and male activities in general.
I fully believe the equal pay bill should be passed. I can't even fathom a reason to have unequal pay amongst men and women in our modern society. Nowadays, both men and women can do practically any job available, and it's totally unfair that women are not paid as much as their male peers right from the get-go. I understand changing an employee's pay based on how much work they do or how hard they work, but that should be equal to men and women and should not only be pointed towards women.
I think absolutely the bill should be passed. As someone who is directly affected by the wage gap, it's devastating to figure out that your male counterparts are making more than you for the same work. My own mother is one of the hardest workers I know and still she has to face discrimination on her pay and benefits just because she is not one of the boys.
I think that if the bill gets passed it will help with womens rights and protesting. I think it would also be a good idea because buisness owners wouldn't have to worry about the different pay and could just pay everyone equally unless an employee recieved a raise or made a different amount.
I think an equal pay bill would solve a lot of the womens rights protesting because then women would be able to get the same amount of pay that the men get. I think it would help out the portesting within this topic because a lot of people think they get paid more then the other people and then it turns into a big argument, so I think to even it out the equal pay bill would be a great choice.
I think it would be a good idea, so there wouldnt be any protest or complaints about equal pay. Women could have an equal chance of getting paid the same as men and it wouldnt create a huge thing because everyone will get paid equally for the same job no matter what kind of job it is.
I think that the bill should be passed because then we can put the argument that men get paid better than women to rest. We could finally be done worrying about equal pay, and move on to other things that are more important. Equal pay should have happened a long time ago. It's kind of sad to think that it took this long for people to realize this.
