Ebola Death Considered Racism?

Eric Duncan, the Ebola patient that was treated in Texas, now has people talking that it was racist. When the doctors gave the 2 american doctors the experimental drug, and it cured them, everything was fine. When they didn't give the experimental drug to Duncan, it was looked upon as racism. Fox news believes that racism is not the reason that he didn't receive the drug. The family believes that since he was African, he wasn't good enough. There are debates whether or not he should have received the drug or not. One side is saying that he lied about his Ebola status and so he didn't deserve the drug as much. Also, the doctors who were treated needed to be here on earth because they help heal other people. The other side of the argument is that he is a dying, human and so he deserved to get the shot.

What is your view on this debate? Was it racist? Explain.

  • Good topic choice and well done once again!

  • I don't think it was I just think the doctors had it because they knew people.  But did they have the shot/cure to give him because I thought it was hard to make.

  • I think it is pathetic that everyone keeps going back to the thought "oh its racist". Well just because an African man was involved and possibly not treated as fairly, does not mean it is automatically counted as racist. Should he have gotten the drug? Maybe. If he got Ebola before the nurses/doctors, he probably should have gotten the drug before them, but then again he did lie about coming in contact with an Ebola patient. How ever that does not make it right, and that should not be an excuse. I do not believe it was necessarily all based on racism, but that does not mean it wasn't.

    • Yes, the doctors/nurses may have made a mistake, that we do not know, but he also did to. He should not have come over and I believe that they need to make the airports stricter about whether or not you are able to leave/enter a country.

  • No. If it was racist they wouldn't of even brought him over here. And we wouldn't be going to Africa to help.

    • That is a good point. Our doctors are doing everything they can to end this sickness world-wide. They aren't gonna only help white people so I think the people calling it racist need to think through that.

  • If it was a while person and the same thing would of happened, people would not be making that big of a deal out of it. Because they would not think it was racist.

  • I say it was racist if they can cure doctors to help people why couldn't they give him the shot aren't they doctors and don't they help people, so why couldn't they helped him.

  • I don't think it was racist. The doctors said that they didn't had anymore cure. They just try to help everyone because it's their jobs but now every time that something happens and involves a white person and a black person, it's automatically called racism.

    • Yeah and it is sad that everything has to be racism. Why can't we just all get along, no matter the race. We are all humans and all living for the same purposes so why not just enjoy life with what we have.
