Dropping Bombs on Mars?

Space X CEO, Elon Musk was on the late show with Steven Colbert and they were talking about he said that they wanted to send people to mars. Now some of us know that if you go to mars you will never be able to come back. but if you do go in the projected 2023 date the planet might just be a little warmer. Mars temperature can range from -81 Degrees to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, but Elon has a solution to that. Drop Thermonuclear bombs on mar's Poles, yes nuclear. After doing that he said it would be a more "earth-like planet".

What do you think, could that make mars more like earth or do u think it will ruin it all?

  • Good story choice but you didn't reply to anyone.

  • I don't think this would work i think they would do more damage than good to the planet and its resources.

  • I don't think that these could works because it also destroyed many things and oxygen has also be build and water. So I think it is really difficult to make it like the earth.

  • This is an interesting idea. I think it's kind of weird, but also kind of cool at the same time. I'm not sure how well this will work though. It sounds really dangerous, I think something could go wrong.

  • It might raise the temperature of mars, but that isn't the only problem, what about the atmosphere not containing any oxygen? Or no water to sustain life on the planet? His idea might be correct, but he hasn't thought too far ahead.

  • Well you would definitely destroy the parts where you drop the nukes, but I don't know if that would necessarily make Mars more like earth.

  • Ever heard of Fallout? Either the game or the word

    Fallout:

    1. radioactive particles that are carried into the atmosphere after a nuclear explosion or accident and gradually fall back as dust or in precipitation.
    2. the adverse side effects or results of a situation.
When has nuclear equipment proved to make things 'more' habitable? I have see several movies, games, locations, historical events, and the after math of nuclear encounter. Non of such have proven to be live able or more live able. Ever heard of chernobyl? It was a Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine where an explosion accidentally occurred on April 26, 1986. The disaster was so bad, that the location to this day, still contain enourmous amounts of radiation, causing the site extremely unsafe. The site is estimated to not be habitable for another 20,000 years.
Either way, my say is: No, this will  cause the planet to become even more unsafe for life. Also who knows what this could cause long term wise, or what we will be loosing for research and discovery by blasting the poles?! Think about it like so, If Earth's poles were to be nuclearly bombarded, what would be lost, what would happen to Earth?
  • I think it would ruin cause you would have all the nuclear radiation every where and why would they let anyone go to mars when to radiation could kill you.

  • I don't really know what would happen. I feel like dropping nuclear bombs there and then letting humans go inside anything that remains from the explosion doesn't sound very safe, but that's just an opinion.

  • I'm not certain on the scientific evidence behind this theory but nothing good comes from nuclear bombs. And I don't understand how the radiation would make living on mars any better then Earth.
