Just recently, my friend's family was on Channel 7 news. Her brother and sister were in their family's pickup truck with their dad, driving to Defiance to get firewood during last weeks blizzard.. Yes it wasn't the smartest to be driving out in the blizzard with high winds and slick roads, but it did come unexpectedly. Well anyways, they were on a county road and had gone into a snow drift and could not get out. The father got out and had tried to push and dig, but the pickup would not budge. Thinking what is best for his children, he got out and decided to walk to the nearest house to call for help. The children were told to stay in the car, where it wasnt so cold and dangerous. The children are around 15, 11, and 9. He had gotten ahold of a friend to come pick up him and his children, and they returned home safely. What he was not aware of, was that the Shelby County police were out looking for him and his children for about an hour, tracking footsteps of the children. Even though he had called the Police Department, and the person speaking to him had told him that they would call off the search because everything and everyone was okay. Well the police were still searching, and they had found the truck, but no one inside. Because he had one simple mistake that any parent would have done, leaving their children in the warmest and safest place possible, he may be facing criminal charges. The story will be continued on the news once charges are decided, but I honestly believe this is ridiculous. I really don't think he did anything wrong at all.. I would have done the same thing, and I know my parents would have too. They always say if the weathers bad or cold to have and extra set of gloves or shoes or clothes in the car with you incase they have to get out and walk for help.. What do you guys think about this?
Here is the link to the story, although my friend said she was in the car as well, and was not listed..
