A high school principal in Texas apologizes to parents after a couple students made a dress code video, that was seen as an act of sexism. The video shows a group of girls wearing all different types of outfits being told not to wear them by a “dress code violator” posed as a teacher. It showed how a teenager was wearing a baggy t-shirt with shorts underneath and how the dress code is so strict because they don’t want to distract the boys. The girls in the video had to repeat the saying “I will not wear athletic shorts.” The video went viral and parents challenged the dress code because it showed the lack of diversity, such as people who don’t identify as a gender, plus sized individuals and showed only girls getting in trouble.

1. I don't think girls should be able to wear spaghetti straps but I think if they're wearing a dress and it shows a little skin then that's okay. It's highschool so the students should be able to wear what they want especially if their parents allow them to wear it.1
2. I always hear about how girls can't wear shorts or tank tops because it distracts the boys but I've never seen a guy get in trouble for wearing a cut off before. I think it's weird how guys can go shirtless in practice but girls can't go in their bras.
3. I would be so mad if my child wouldn't be able to wear athletic shorts because there's nothing wrong with them. Some are long and comfortable and you play sports with them so you should be able to wear them to school. I think it's crazy if kids can't wear athletic shorts because what else would they wear?

As long as girls aren't showwing too much, I think girls should be able to choose what they wear like tank tops and shorts. I do not think it is fair that guys can wear whatever they want and then there are all of these dress codes for the girls. Boys never get in trouble for wearing a cut off shirt and then girls wear a tank top and show a little bit of their shoulder and they are asked to change ebcause it is too distracting. I would be mad ig my child weren't allowed to wear athletic shorts because they are comfortable and they aren't that short.
I believe girls should be able to wear mostly what they want to school. I understand some girls can show a little to much, but by telling them they can't wear the clothes they wear, brings done their self-confidence. In my eyes, it is not fair that boys don't necessarily have a dress code, but girls are constantly getting in trouble for what they wear. This has been a huge problem in our school, and I think we should have a vote on this, a vote to the public. Not once have I seen a guy be attracted to a girls shoulders. They are just shoulders, guys have them also.
I believe that girls should be able to wear tank tops, but not necissarily "short shorts", but maybe shorter shorts than what we are allowed now. I do not believe it is fair for girls to have such a strict dresscode and boys to have barely any at all. The top reason they do this is because boys can't control their thoughts. Well I think they should be tought to control them. Also, I think that is posing a very negative message because it's saying that girls have to cover up more because of boy thoughs and not to teach boys that it is wrong to sexualize a girl just because of what she is wearing. I would be very upset to learn that my child isn't able to wear sport short. One reason is because sometimes it is hot outside and we don't want to wear long pants. Also, if a guy wore girl sport shorts to school they wouldn't get in trouble because it is a "girls" dress code.
I think the dress coded we have today aren't fair. I think we should be able to wear a tank top and shorts. No boys are distracted by shoulders. I think it is also wrong that boys can wear whatever they want but girls have to follow such a strict dress code. I would be very upset if my child or I was told that we couldn't wear athletic shorts to school because I like being comfy at school.
Honestly If you want to wear a tank top thats fine thats why they make them, for hot days. As for shorts. I think it's crazy that they weren't allowed to wear shorts. No, I think it's sexist. If we can't wear what we want "because it makes boys look at you" then why isn't that used for girls to? We can say don't wear those clothes. It makes us girls look at you. It sounds so stupid. Yes. 1. I personally don't care if girls wear these items. As long as they respect themselves, and learn to not wear like shorts that are 1.5 inches. I think they should respect their bodies too.
2. I mean if any body knows about the dress code it's me. I think i've had it the roughest. Okay some of you girls had to take something off and put something new on. I wore a headband for my longer hair and I got ISS for 2 days. Also it went on my record of being in the office. I wore a pink headband and a black headband that were both in the end taken away from me. I didn't even get a chance to take them home they just took it from me.
3. Yes I would. Girls and Boys should both have the same right to wear athletic shorts. I think it shouldn't matter what your gender is. There's only two genders btw prove me wrong, but that's off topic.
I feel like the school system owes all the girls more than apoligies. Sometimes sorrys don't cut it.
I thik we should be able to wear tank tops and dresses with tank tops without covering up, but I think short shorts are a little to much. I don't think it is fair for girls to have stricter dress codes than boys. Not everyone realizes boys do have dress codes too. I agree, I would be upset because athletic shorts are not hurting anyone, and not everyone wants to wear jean shorts in the summer.

i think so becasue as a boy sholders arent atractive and shorts arent going to keep me stareing at them all class it depends on the shirt or piece of clothing i dont think that it should matter either due to thier freedom of press? not for sure about that i would because then they wouldnt be able to express themselfs
