Don't Judge Challenge Gone Too Far?

Many people have been doing the "Don't Judge Challenge", which is where you start off looking as unattractive as possible. Most people will draw on uni brows, fake zits, crazy lipstick, freckles, and many other things. They then cover the camera and show themselves as attractive as they can, in their most photogenic form. It all started as a hashtag to show the body shaming that goes around on the internet, and help people feel better about themselves.

Many people think this challenge is a great idea, and are joining in and making videos of their own. Meanwhile, others find these videos to be the complete opposite of what it's meant to be, and that they are actually judging people for having acne, excess hair, glasses, or not properly grooming themselves.

In one incident, a teenage girl from Florida completely cover her face in black sharpie. When Farrah Marshall went to remove it for the next part of the video, she realized it would not only not come off, it wouldn't even fade. Farrah dialed 911 and was then rushed to the Northside hospital where she was told she would have to get graft surgery in order to remove the black on her face. Skin would have to be taken from Farrah's back and buttocks to replace the skin on her face. Her mom said "It’s truly a tragedy. Now her face is black forever all because of a stupid challenge. I hope kids learn from her mistake."

     ----QUESTIONS----

1. Do you think the Don't Judge Challenge has gotten out of hand? Why? or Why not?

2. What is your overall opinion on this challenge?

3. Do you think the challenge is helping people's body insecurities or making them worse? Why?

My opinion:  I think the challenge videos are fun to watch, and could possibly help people to be more comfortable with themselves, and the way they look. I do agree though that some videos have gone too far.

  • Great job with your summary and replies for both stories!!

  • I don't think the Don't Judge Challenge has gotten out of hand, I think some kids have gotten out of hand. Some kids tend to take things to the extreme that don't need to be. I think the challenge has good intentions but of course people try to change the intentions to be bad.

  • It her fault for not doing any research about putting toxic marker on her face lol.

The challenge itself is great when it's kept in line because it adds another layer of "good" to this age of equality.

    • I agree that she should have done some research before putting it all over her face, but almost everyone already knows that sharpie is hard to get off. I also agree that it could be good if people would take it more seriously and set some rules.

  • Oh wow this is out of hand It was kind of funny when i read it.  I think the challenge is dumb, People have a lot of time in their hands to cover the face with sharpie. I think this challenge will worsen body insecurity. Hopefully  people understand the seriousness of the situation.

    • I agree that it was a little funny, because she kind of deserves it. I also hope that people will take this seriously.

  • I think it went to far and why would people even do this stuff

  • I think it's terrible that these people are doing this challenge. There basically telling people that look like this that they are ugly, doing the opposite of what they say they are trying to do.

    • I agree they are doing the opposite of the point of this.

  • I think that the Don't Judge Challenge has gotten way to far out of hand because some people would actually color their whole faces a different color and would make themselves look unnatural which isn't the point of the challenge. My feelings on the challenge are that it can make some people feel good about themselves and others would be offended by it because they have problems with acne and other issues. I like to watch them because they are entertaining to see but I also think that it is going too far. I think that the challenge is making some people's insecurities worse because they think that the challenge is making fun of them directly.
