The popularity of medical marijuana in Colorado has had an unintended side effect - dogs getting stoned, sometimes with deadly results.
Some people firmly believe that if medical marijuana helps people, it also helps their pets, but that's not always the case. Marijuana can be harmful and sometimes toxic for dogs. New research shows that with medical marijuana, the number of dogs getting sick from pot is spiking.
"They basically have lost a lot of their fine motor control, they have a wide-based stance and they are not sure on their feet," veterinarian Dr. Debbie Van Pelt said.
Vets say they used to see dogs high on marijuana just a few times a year. Now pet owners bring in doped-up dogs as many as five times a week.
"There are huge spikes in the frequency of marijuana ingestion in places where it's become legal," Van Pelt said.

Awh. Poor Dogs! I think that if your going to abuse the animal, you don't deserve one. That is like Animal Abuse. Why would you want to give Pot to a dog? Duh, people are sick!
It is weird how the dogs are getting high from the medical and, I would like to know how the dogs are getting the medical marijuana and if it is causing problems for the dogs it should be kept away from the dogs and maybe even the people.
well most people are thinkin that the dog owners are smokin up the dog but if you think about it the dog is just probobly in the room or where ever when the owner is doin marijuana and dogs have more sensitive sences than we do so evan just the little bit could get the dog high and in mass amounts i bet is whe the dogs get sick and possibly die, i dont think its right for people to be doing it around pets or doing it in general.
That is crazy! Why would you give your dog dope! That is not even right for humans to do more less feeding a dog it! I would never do that to my dog! I love my dog, these people obviously didn't care about there dog that much!!
obviously if it's poison for dogs, it should be kept away from dogs. marijuana should come with disclaimers and information so this kind of stuff won't happen as often
This is ridiculous.. Why would you do this to a poor animal. I think this is so wrong. Giving Marijuana to a dog is just not logical.
I went to colorado over the summer to stay with my brother for a week. Whenever we were driving around the Colorado Springs area, where they live, I saw a lot of buildings with green crosses on the sides. I asked my sister in law what they were and she told me they were places that sold medical marijuana. I couldn't believe how many there were. Literally, one on every block!
What some people don't seem to see is that dogs can also get into things without it being given to them. It can't always just be somebody throwing it out to a dog just to do it
This type of irresponsibility and abuse is the exact reason why marijuana should be illegal. If we made it legal these types of things would continue to happen but just on a much larger scale.
thats honestly really sad, because of these peoples selfishness to smoke that in front of their dog, they are practically killing their own pets. I find that wrong and needs to stop.
