Does this mark the end for ISIS?

U.S.-backed forces declare total victory over the terrorist group that has held power over the region for years. On early Saturday morning, the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) tweeted: "SDF declare total elimination of so-called caliphate and 100 percent territorial defeat over ISIS." This marks the end of of the years-long global campaign to break the extremist group's hold of the region. The battlefield has been cleared and the battle has been over for quite a while, but victory had not been declared until now. Many air strikes and raids have taken place in recent days, which includes the tragic death of a driver. President Trump is looking forward to keep as many as 200 military troops in the middle east to maintain peace for a certain amount of time.

Do you think that the terrorist group is gone for good? Why or why not?

I think that the group is not entirely gone, as there could still be some runaways that still carry on the extremist group's believe.

Do you think that it is necessary for US troops to stay in the middle east?

Yes, I think that there should still be some military action conducted in the middle east, as we might never know if there could be another extremist group that rises to power.

    • Yes, there are many out there probably tying to avenge them, and there should definitelly be some backup in case mayhem breaks out.

  • 2 - Yes, I do think that it is a good idea to keep our troops in the middle east, necessary, no. I think that keeping some troops over there will help maintain the peace that they believe they have gotten. Leaving some there will also help with intelegence and keeping an eye on possible threats.

  • 1 - No, I don't think that this group is done for. All they did was take back the land the ISIS claimed as their own, they didn't end the group themselves. They certainly keep trying to get more people to join and probably never really end. We still have Nazis that are around, and they have been defeated for a very long time.

  • I don't think ISIS is gone, I think there is still a group out there somwhere harming people. I do believe that we have defeated a good margin of ISIS though which is very good. I do think it is necessary that troops stay in the middle east, so we're safe and make sure nothing happens.

    • ISIS can be treaky and we might not know if there are other hideouts where they might be hiding and we should slow them down before another major attack happens.

  • I do not think that the terrist group of isis will be gone forever for many reasons. One reasons is that the trace of them could be everywhere on the internet and if they start to be studied in history classes kids could look them up and maybe believe the sames things they did and restart the terrist group.

I do think it is necessary for US troops to stay in the middle east to an extent. SInce there is always the possibility that the terrist group could come back to life i think some troops should stay there. I do not think that all the troops should be there just enough to fight off an uprise if it happens.

  • No, I think the terrorist group will still persist just not as many. I think the U.S. troops should stay in the middle east because we don't want another problem to arise like we have already had.

  • 1. I don't think it is gone for good. I feel like some of ISIS escaped and will try and rebuild the terrorit group in the coming years.

    2. I think it is because there could be an uprising of some sort of terrorist group and the US will be able to defend it off.

    • Me either, I think you are right about their possible uprise. We may never know whats to come in the future so it is necessary to keep troops there.

  • I don't think the group is entirely gone, there is still the possibility that the are still out there and incolved with other groups. I think it necessary that the US troops stay in the middle east because like I said they is still a chance that the group is out there and they could be planning something else.
