Does this mark the end for ISIS?

U.S.-backed forces declare total victory over the terrorist group that has held power over the region for years. On early Saturday morning, the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) tweeted: "SDF declare total elimination of so-called caliphate and 100 percent territorial defeat over ISIS." This marks the end of of the years-long global campaign to break the extremist group's hold of the region. The battlefield has been cleared and the battle has been over for quite a while, but victory had not been declared until now. Many air strikes and raids have taken place in recent days, which includes the tragic death of a driver. President Trump is looking forward to keep as many as 200 military troops in the middle east to maintain peace for a certain amount of time.

Do you think that the terrorist group is gone for good? Why or why not?

I think that the group is not entirely gone, as there could still be some runaways that still carry on the extremist group's believe.

Do you think that it is necessary for US troops to stay in the middle east?

Yes, I think that there should still be some military action conducted in the middle east, as we might never know if there could be another extremist group that rises to power.

  • Good topic choice! Be sure to capitalize key words in your title. Also, I think you could have commented more and also on three different days.

  • I think that ISIS is mostly if not completely gone, but I worry about them regaining control of the area if they're helped by anyone. The U.S. should keep troops there to keep any other terroist organizations out of the area, because if we leave there is nothing stopping someone else from coming in and becoming the new ISIS.

  • I don't think this is the end of the group, I'm sure people will still carry out attacks in their name. I do think that it is necessary for troops to stay there because no one can know if something is going on or if something secretive is taking place. I think it's necessary to stay safe, so keeping the troops there will help us stay that way.

  • I think that some members of the group remain throughout Syria and such. I believe that the troops should stay there so that ISIS does not rise again, so we should keep them there just to be safe. I would rather be safe than sorry.

  • I think that most of the terrorist group is gone, but I don't think ISIS is completely gone, there's always going to be terrorists around. I think that a few US troops should be kept in Afganistan so that the people there stay safe if there is ever another attack.

    • I think you are right, there is plenty of space for them to hide in and that they can be anywhere. although, many troops would like to come back home, it is important to keep some there to keep the peace.

  •  No, I think there is probably small little areas where members of ISIS are hiding out.

Yes, to ensure that they are finally that ISIS is actually gone.

  • For now, I believe the group is gone, the SDF has taken back most of ISIS former territory. However, their beliefs are not gone and other groups could form centered around their beliefs. Yes, but only in restricted roles like training local military. The War of Terror has changed the US military physically and mentally away from conventional tactics for better or for worse.

    • I agree. There is a lot combat tactits that may come in handy when they are fighting. Their belief isn't gon so there should be troops to prevent their next attack.

  • I don't think that Isis is completely gone because there are definitely people out there that still hold the same beliefs as the extremist group and whom may also be hoping to avenge them. I think that US troops need to stay in the middle east as backup in case Isis members are still out there.
