Do you find yourself mentally drained in the winter? Is your mood more unpleasant than usual? Summer seems to be the time when people are happiest. When I think of summer, I immediately associate it with the sun and the warm weather. Just thinking about it puts me in better spirits. So could the sun be the reason for our happiness?
The sun provides Vitamin D for the body. Vitamin D is healthy for the body and gives a person better cell growth as well as stronger bones. The sun can overall make your body feel healthier. Being in the sun can also escalate your serotonin which is released by the brain. Serotonin is supposed to make an individual feel calm and concentrated which then puts them in a happier mood. On the other hand, melatonin is meant for releasing hormones that make you sleepy. Melatonin is released when it is darker outside, therefore dark winter days make people more drowsy.
There is actually a disorder for a lack of sunlight called S.A.D(Seasonal Affective disorder). S.A.D affects approximately 10 million Americans in the U.S. S.A.D causes a person to be moody, depressed, unmotivated, etc. It usually affects people from the end of fall to the end of winter. Furthermore, colder and darker seasons can result in bad mental health.
From learning about the sun and its benefits, I think that it has a positive effect on people. I think that the darker it is outside, the more tired I am. Sometimes I associate tiredness with stress which makes me more sad. I would definitely say that sunlight makes me happier. During the summer I feel like I have more energy and I have a better attitude. Sunlight seems like it should be a necessity for most everyone.
Do you think the sun affects an individual's mood?
Are you happier during the summer?
Do you think most everybody needs at least a little sunlight?

I agree that it is healthy to be outside. As students, we are restricted from going outside during the prime time of the sun being out. I think it would be nice if we could be able to go outside in order to get in our vitamin D.
I definetly think that sunlight effects a persons mood because they seem less happier durring months when their are less sunlight such as winter. It also seems that people are happier durring th sunny months such as summer. I think that sunlight is somewhat needed.
I think the warmth from the sun definitely affects your mood, especially in the warm summer sun. Whenever it is warm outside I feel very relieved and a lot less stressed from life, even when it's during the school year. I think everyone does need some sunlight so they'll be less stressed about life.
I agree that not only the sun makes us happier, but the less stress also makes us happier. I think school can be a bad mix of stress, lack of sleep, and gloominess. I wish there was something to fix some of these problems. Even just going outside during the day could help.
I do think that the sun affects your mood because the sun gives you needed vitamin c. That's why so many people have seasonal depression. I am for sure way happier in the summer than I am in the winter and I think that everyone needs sunlight to keep themselves healthy.
I think the sun brings joy to everbody, it puts a smile on peoples face's. Also I am 20x happier in the sun because it is a good feeling to see sun. Sun does have good affects and bad affects if you over use it. I think everybody needs to have some sun.
I do actually think the sun has an impact on an individuals mood at any given time. I actually feel happier during late spring and summer. When I go to another school for a competition, im always impressed by how common natural lighting is, and I always like it. I believe that everybody should get at least a little sun whenever possible.
The more light we have, the more awake we seem to be. During the summer I feel like I have so much more energy, and I am definitely much happier. Every time I am in the sun I feel like I absorb the vitamin D. It makes me feel less stressed, more relaxed, etc.
