If you were to ask students if they think we should have shorter school days, the majority would say yes. If you were to ask teachers if we should have shorter school days, the majority would probably say no. But which is more beneficial? Longer or shorter school days?
Shorter school days should be utilized in the U.S. education system. Shorter school days bring along many benefits. Students would have more focusing time on important aspects of their lives outside of school. As for shortening school days, students wouldn’t be so stressed out about time management and they won’t be behind on enriching projects. Shorter school days would also give students more movement and brain breaks along with other activities proven to increase learning outcomes.
Decreasing the amount of time we spend in school a day, would give students opportunities to focus more on their mental health. I strongly believe that your mental health is very important. I also believe that mental health education is too often shunted aside. Research proves that higher rates of anxiety, high-stress, and depression are rising in children and teens. If the U.S. were to shorten the school days, students would have more time to decompress with intention and make time for activities that manage stress.
Do you think school days should be longer or shorter?
Do you think mental health is important when it comes to school?
If you think the days should be shorter, how much shorter do you think they should be?

I would love a shorter school day. All I ask for is to start the day at 9. If you actually look into this topic, the scientific community agrees with the idea that schools should start later. They believe this because mental health of future generations should be important to everyone.
Yes, I think that the starting of having shorter school days would be both extremely beneficial to both teachers and students. for example, it is known that school or homework given by the teachers can cause stress to students, but I also believe it would be a relieif for teachers with having less things to do.
I think that having shorter school days would help teachers and students all around. Their mental health would improve and this could lead to better grades for the student. Having a shorter day would make students focus more and after school they would have more time to relax after extra cirricular activites. I think that the days should be 1 hour shorter, cutting too much time off could cause schools to take days off of summer break which is not beneficial to anyone.
I think having shorter school days would be very beneficial to students, but not only because of their mental health but also their ability to stay focused. Many students complain about being tired by the end of the school day, and if we had shorter days I feel this wouldn't be the same. Mental health is also super important, and I agree that school can damage a student's health. I don't think school days should be too much shorter, but maybe cutting an hour or two off would be a good idea.
I think what we should not increase the school days but would shortening them help? I think that mental health is the most important thing when it comes to school. If we shorten the days I think we should start a little later to allow extra sleep.
I think that there is a huge difference between what we want and what can actually happen. I think that the reason that students prefer shorter school days is because they simply don't like school but that's not good enough reason to shorten school days because we still need to learn. And I do think that mental health is important when it comes to school...and that's why schools offer students to speak with counselors. I think that the shortest school days could be, would be to finish school at 1 ish.
I think that it would be awesome if school was shorter because I could work more and get more things I need to get done. But I don't think that we should have a shorter day becasue that means that we have to take time out of summer and breaks that we only have so often. I think this would help better health because we would be less stressful.
I think students and teachers would benefit from having shorter school days. This would benefit students to have more free time and the teachers could have more time to grade assignments and tests and they would also get more free time. I think mental health is very important, having shorter school days would give students time to focus on their mental health. if they have those kinds of issues. I think the school days should be shortened by like an hour.
I think school days should not be shorter because 3 is not late at all. When we have a job later we get home even later and school prepares us for that. Also if we would shorten the school days we would have less time for what we learn in class.
Obviously students will say yes when asked if the days should be shorter. But the truth is we should have shorter school days to help focus and help the students get down time for homework and to rest. Not even early outs but maybe even late starts would be great.
