Do you support charter schools?

A charter school is a school that receives government funding but still operates separately from state established schools. The point of a charter school is to provide more opportunitites for students, parents, and even teachers, in the hope to improve and increase learning opportunities for students, especially for those who identify as academically low achieving. They provide more options for educational opportunities.

Charter schools have the ability to specilalize in particular areas, giving students classes that match with their interests. This often helps students become more invested in their education. At a charter school they still have to follow the major regulations and laws that a traditional public school does, but they can devote more energy and resources into something to help students achieve their goals. These schools often have smaller class sizes, allowing students for more on-one-one to get the help they need.

Although charter schools sound pretty good, there are some cons. Most charter schools are pretty small, and there have been many cases of charter schools lacking quality education that some may need, especially children with disabilities. They can also be more selective with their students. Parents also need to be more involved in the school and are sometimes asked to donate large amounts of money. The research shows that charter schools are lacking innovation, which was the main goal for them.

I personally don’t support charter schools. Although it is true some of them show positive research, the majority of them show that they are having a negative impact on students. Instead of spending government money on charter schools, we should be spending it to improve our public schools. We are wasting money on something that is lacking innovation, and is doing nothing to help our community. I just don’t think our government should be supporting any type of privatized schools.

Do you support charter schools? Explain why or why not.

Do you believe that charter schools are more effective or ineffective on a childs education?

In the future, if you had to make a decision on whether or not you would send your child to a charter school, what would you choose?

  • I support the idea of charter schools but they are not exicuted correctly and schools that are made speciffically for people with special needs. I think that not every kid should be sent there because it could hurt their eductation. I would not send my child there unless they needed special education.

  • I have never really heard much about charter schools but just from reading this article, I don't think I would send my child to a charter school. As the classes are smaller so kids can have more attention and get more help if needed, the whole system just doesn't seem right and has many negative effects for a childs learning.

  • I dont think I support chater schools. They seems like the school we call prison as a joke. regular school at least has some freedom like chosing classes, but a chator school just seems like you have no freedom to do anything. It also seems like it does do negative things to a childs learning activity. It seems like just a money grap and not a school that wants to help children. If I had to choose to send my child to a chater school I would say no to it. I would want whats best for my child and send them to a puplic school. They can learn other things besides school work, like making friends.

  • I think they have a good idea but they dont have enough resources to achieve their purpose. I personaly would not send my kid to a school that lacks quality learning. If I ever have kids I am going to try and get them the best education that I can so they have lots choices of what they want to do in life.

  • I've never heard much about charter schools but they sound like it depends on the kid whether or not they benefit from going to a charter school.  I think they could be benefital since they have smaller classes so they can get more help but it doesn't sound worth it if they lack education. I personally don't think I would send my child to a charter school.

  • I don't know very much about this topic, but it seems like charter schools are not achieving their goals. If charter schools were more efficient, then maybe it could be more effetive for a child. It seems beneficial to grow in a topic you are interested in, but I don't think I would send my child to a charter school. It is hard to know what you want to do at a young age.

  • I wouldn't send my child to a charter school. If they're not gonna provide a good education, especially for someone with disabilities, then what else are you supposed to do? It'll just end up being a huge waste of money, unlike here. Here we only have to pay $50 to start the school year, the rest is just extra.

  • I don't think I would personally send my child to a charter school if it will not benniffit them. With reasearch showing the negative impacts against children, I don't support them. I think it would end up being a wast of money if they don't actually benefit the child.

  • I personally don't think I would send my kids to a charter school. If my child was very serious about his/her education then I would let them but otherwise if they are an average student I don't think I would send them because it would most likely end up doing bad in school.

  • I don't think I would send my child to a charter school especially if they won't benefit from it. If they are an average student then they would more than likely end up doing poorly in it and it would end up being a waste of money. I think the people are just looking for ways to make more money off of parents by having them send their kids to these.
