Democrats being paid to attend town halls?

Representative Jason Chaffetz recently held a town hall reception in Salt lake city. Chaffetz is an avid Trump supporter and he praised Trump at the reception, unfortunately for him a plethora of anti-Trump protesters showed up. Chaffetz blamed his harsh crowd on "a paid attempt to bully and intimidate." Even a White House press secretary claimed the protest was "a very paid, AstroTurf-type movement." Many Republicans are dismissing the massive crowds as efforts made by well-funded liberal groups that pays protesters. The protesters claim that they willingly fighting the Republicans for free.

Even though there is no evidence to support the Republicans, Do you think protesters are getting paid to rally?

and if they were getting paid do you think it should be allowed?

  • Good topic choice but be sure to reply to student comments as it's worth 20 points.

  • I don't think there's enough evidence, this may just be another rumor that's been blown out of proportion. I don't see a huge problem with getting paid to protest peacefully. If the protests are violent, then that's not okay and should be illegal. If they're getting paid, they're still protesting for someone else's beliefs.

  • Depends on what they are protesting since there are some groups that might pay protesters, but I think it's usually volunteers who protest so I doubt they got paid. No, since if you're getting paid to protest then you're not actually for the purpose of the protest, and are in it for the money.

  • I think that there is a possibility that they are getting paid to protest. I don't think that a lot of people would have gone and ruined something if they weren't getting payed. I don't think that this should be allowed I think that it is very rude and uncalled for. Many people put hard work and time into those meetings and they don't deserve to be treated like that.

  • I think some may be getting paid to protest because there are people out there for days at a time and I don't anyone can be able to protest that long and still have a job. I don't think people should be paid because it will only make the groups larger and more people will start protesting which leads to violence.

  • I do believe that they are getting paid because you could not just skip multiple days of work just to go out and protest. They had to have some more motivation then trying to get politics to go their way. I do not believe it should be allowed simply because they are leading to really violent protests. People are lighting vehicles on fire and places are getting robbed during these protests.
