Last week in Omaha NE, a student named Alex Hernandez was eating lunch when two other students stole his backpack. Alex is deaf and the students said they didn't know he was deaf. They threw all the contents of the bag into the toilet. His tablet was cracked and his notebooks were ruined. His teachers have replaced all the notebooks and students are raising money to replace the rest of his belongings. Alex says he is very happy with the amount of support he has received. Many other people have sent him letters and messages to support him. The school doesn't classify this act as bullying. This has made Alex's mother decide to take him out of the school system.
What would you do if you were Alex?
Do you think the school should count this as bullying?
I would try to keep my head up and keep acting normal. I wouldn't want the students to know that it got to me. I think the school should count this as bullying because there's really nothing else to call it.

Well done!
1. I would be upset someone had took my belonging and throw it into the toilet
2. I think the should treat it has a bully behavior because stealing and destroying other people things is bad behavior
I would be upset if I was going to that school for awhile obviously people are going to talk and find out whats the deal with others. Yes it is bullying no doubt about it taking somebodys belongings is wrong, invading others personal space is wrong. This shouldnt of happened in the first place just goes to show that bullying cant be stopped, especially in high school.
If I were Alex, I'd probably find whoever had done it and settled things myself. It's not okay to do anything like that whether or not he was deaf or not.
I think the school should count that as bullying because like I said, it's not okay to begin with whether or not someones deaf or not. And with all the damages, it's just not okay.
I think that Alex shouldn't show that the bullying affected him in some way. It should make him stronger as person because of all the support he's receiving. This is bullying, the fact that the students didn't know he was deaf shouldn't matter. What they did was wrong whether he was deaf or not. They should face punishment for their actions.
I would just respect the kids who were helping me and thank everyone who was giving me supports. I would want the kids who did this to get in trouble. The school should definitely count this as bullying, if I was a student at this school or his mom or something I would be very upset and fight for those kids to have consequences. It doesn't matter whether they knew he was deaf or not, its still wrong and is bullying.
I agree! It's definitely bulling!
Cry and tell on them.
Yes! How could it not be they are vandalizing his property?
I wouldn't cry! Exactly I agree that it's totally bullying.
I agree! I would be very upset but I wouldn't let it get to me and I'd try to be strong.
