Dam in Brazil Collapsed Leaving 58 Dead and 300 Missing.

58 people are dead and 300 missing after a dam collapses in Brazil on Friday, January 25th. Only eight of the 58 bodies recovered have been identified. Vale is the company that operated the dam and is the country's largest mining company. More than 260 Vale mining company employees are among the missing. "The top priority of the company right now is to support the rescue efforts and to help preserve and protect the lives of direct employees, third-party employees and local communities," Vale said in a statement. There is still no confirmation on what caused the accident. Rescuers have been digging through the mud trying to find any survivors.

  1. If you lived in the area of the dam, would you volunteer to help rescue people from the mud?It would depend on how safe the siutation was. If it was safe to look for people then I would. But if not then I would do everything I could to help the families with people missing in the debree

2. What would you do if you were a major business like Vale and had 260 employees missing due to a disaster?

206 is a lot of people. I would do everything I could to help locate the employess that were missing. I would also visit the families to help them with anything they needed.

  • Good overall but you should have replied to more student comments.

  • I would definitely try to help people around my area or in my country if I could; A situation like that its really drastic especially because is something that involves natural elements like the sand that took place in the whole city. I would do anything I can to support them; I would try to help in everyway, but I wouldn't start by giving the victims money because something can't be easily forgotten with money.

  • If I wouldn't get in the way, I'd try to help rescue the people and support those who lost friends or family in the collapse. If ran the business, I also would release a statement to the public to take care of press and use my resources to find the workers, provide help for the families, and figure out what happened to make the dam collapse.

  • I would definitely try to help rescue people from the mud in any way I could. If someone is crying out for help I wouldn't just ignore it and go on with my day, I would try to help them. I would be extremely worried for all of my employees and I would do everything I could to help the rescue team look for them and if I could offer support to the team and the families of the lost employees.

  • I would help rescue people because I would be help saving lives and if not I would probably help the stuggling families out in anyway that I can. I would do everything I could to locate the missing employees and visit the families and let them know I'm trying to help out.

  • I would volunteer in the rescue efforts because we are all americans and a family at heart and I would do everything in my power to lend a hand to my fellow brothers and sisters. If I was the company I would be preparing to grant the families that lost loved ones with compensation at the bare minimum. WIth this said it is hard to put value on life.

    • I do not agree with the not helping part of your statement. I think the least people in the surrounding areas could do would be to help in the search and rescue efforts because Im sure the event did not just effect the workers in the accident but all of the community as a whole.

  • If I lived there I would probably try to help rescue poeple if I could, like you said it would depend on if it was safe to go to the area of the dam. If I was the owner of the business I would do whatever I could to help the missing people and also contact their families to see if they need any help like you said.

  • I would defentiley help if it was safe to help. But if not I would Hand wout water bottles and help every one affected by the dam.

Well if I was that empolyer I would be searching night and day for my 260 workers and i would vist their families to make sure they didn't need andything and make sure they were emothinonally okay.

  • If I lived there, I think I would definitely help look for people in the mud. If I were one stuck I would want as many people looking for me as well as others who are trapped too. The ways and equiptment used, however, would need to be very safe though in order to ensure that no one helping is harmed. If i were a major business I would go out of my way to make sure that we found as many as we could. I also agree with what you said about visiting their families. It would be a hard time for them and being there would hopefully help in a way of reassurance.
