Cyclone in Pacific devastates Vanuatu

A terrifying cyclone devastated the islands of Vanuatu this Saturday. Winds up to 340 kph (210 mph) destroyed almost everything. Until now the Vanuatu's National Disaster Management Office confirmed that at least eight people died and 20 are injured. Those numbers are expected to rise. Witnesses describe sea surges of up to eight meters (26 feet). Aid officials said that this storm could be one of the worst natural disasters the Pacific region ever.
Vanuatu is an island nation, it exists of 83 islands and 260,000 people. It is located northeast of the Australian city of Brisbane. It is among the world's poorest countries.

How do you think Aid agencies start helping people in this disaster area?
What would you do a couple days after this storm?

  • Well done!

  • They are probably searching for people and helping injured people. I would try to help out everyone that had their homes destroyed and that are injured.

    • I think they need every help they can get to find people and built cities back up.

  • I would help and find people in the rubble.

  • I would most likely start raiding the streets for some sweet stuff. Then I would probably start building my house back up and quit crying about it.

  • They probably helped people find missing persons from their families and help them rebuild their homes and lives after the storm.

    • They definitely need immediate help with finding missing people. If people are covered up under destroyed houses they won't survive really long.

  • Agencies probably helped by finding people who are stuck under debris. After the storm, I would try to find all of my family and start making plans of what we're going to do next and how we're going to deal with all the damage.

  • I think they needed help with getting food and other supplies that are vital to live. I think that immediate action is needed because if it is one of the poorest countries in then they wouldn't have the money or supplies to help their people.

    • That's right, I also think they need help later, to built up everything. But now it's important that they get supplies like food and water.
