Critical Race Theory

The Critical Race Theory also known as (CRT). The Critical Race Theory has been around for nearly 40 years. The term CRT was started by Kimberle Williams Chenshaw. He was a law professor at UCLA. CRT focused on social constructs. Furthermore, it means stereotyping people of color for activities such as crime. As well as white people being biased or prejudiced against  people of different races. CRT believes that the world is so divided by blacks and whites, leaving out minority races.

This is a big issue in schools.Teachers, especially history teachers, have to watch what they say about race or sex of people. People on the left would say that we should tell the children the full story. The left also believes that teachers should tell students about the bad things that famous people have done in their lifetime. They think that we should hate people for the things they did such as owned slaves. They want to basically just forget about all the good things those people did during their lifetime. Some on the left think that we should not praise the founding fathers since most of them owned slaves. I believe that we should still be able to learn about people such as the founding fathers because they play a very important role in history.

People on the right would say we should still be teaching children about history and tell it how it happened. To honor the good they did in their lifetime not to take away all the honor they deserve. The right, for example, wants students to learn about the founding fathers as heroes not racists. The right believes that teachers should not tell students how to feel politically. For example, a teacher calling a student racist because they do not support BLM. That is what fears the right.

All in all I think that Critical Race Theory does not belong in schools. I believe that teachers should be able to teach history without turning people into racist. I am against teachers enforcing their political view on students or trying to change their minds. As well as treating them differently because of their political views or even race. CRT is a topic that is not understood by many. But I think that everyone should know the basic concept behind it so they can detect CRT in school.

Should CRT be allowed in schools?

Do you still think we should learn about the founding fathers?

  • I am glad you tackled this topic Ava +5! It's not easy for anyone, even adults, to understand. I also think that is why there aren't a ton of comments. People don't understand it. Well done overall!

  • Critical Race Theory should not be taught in schools. Children should not be told what they are because of culture, creed, religon, or skin color. I hope that people realize that CRT is not good to their children. By teaching CRT, it creates these inhernt biases that harm society as a whole.

  • I don't think CRT should be allowed in school. It would cause more conflict then it would actually resolute. Sure, we could mention when teching history that George Washington owned slaves, but we shouldn't teach kids that the 1st president of the U.S.A, or the Founding Fathers were evil because of some actions they made. That was normal back then so they didn't think it was bad, but those things are bad today.

    • I agree. I think that teachers should tell students that some of the founding fathers owned slaves. But they should not tell them how to feel about it.

  • I think that Critical Race Theory is a big thing and it's more complex than most people know. I think that there are some good points on both the left and the right. Obviously, we should not be telling students that the founding fathers were evil men and we should disown their legacy, but we also do need to understand that- as per the norm of that time- that most of them WERE racist- like Thomas Jefferson. I do not think we should push racial stereotypes onto students, but we should talk about them.

    • I agree they should know the facts about the founding fathers just not all bad things about them.

  • I think that the Critical Race Theory should not be allowed in schools because we should stereotype people by any means. I think that if we just focus on people's accomplishments and their good, then we will learn to see the good in everyone. Although since we learn history to not repeat our past, we also need to learn about the bad things everyone has done that has impacted us.

    • I agree with you. Like now we know that slavory is very wrong but back in in George Washington's days everyone owned slaves.

  • I believe that Critical Race Theory doesn't belong in schools. We need to see the good in people. Saying that George Washington was a bad president because he owned slaves isn't fair. We need to discuss that he did own slaves, but we also need to highlight the good he did as well.

    • I agree with you. I think teachers should never tell students that George Washington was a bad president just because he owned slaves.
