Last thursday night the head coach for Creighton boys basktball was suspended after saying racially insensitive comments to his team. Greg had referd to his team as a plantation and in his own defense he didn't mean it to be racist in anyway and later that day he had apologize to his team and he even said he would resign from his job. The players didn't want him to resign but the school had suspended him from all activites including the final game against Butler after they had arived back in Omaha. In Greg's own words he said " Guys, we got to stick together. We need both feet in. I need everybody to stay on the plantation. I can't have anybody leave the plantation."
Greg was very sorry for what he had done and he agreed with what the school had done and that he shouldn't be coaching right know and that he should be suspended. He had tweeted " I made a mistake and I own it". He didn't mean in anyway to have the word "Plantation" used against his players in a bad way he just didn't want his team to get off foot and he wanted them to stay together.
I think that it wasen't a very good word to use to refer to his team and I think it was a very poor word but he didn't mean for it to harm them and he was very sorry about it even saying that he would resign as the head coach and I think it takes a lot to do that. I think he should be suspended but should be able to come back and I think that having this time off will give him time to better understand what he said and what he should do to better his team for next year.

I think it was definently not the proper word to use to refer to his team as and I think it is very responsible of him to own up to it and take the consequence also. I think that he is lucky that his consequence wasn't worse but I do think that he was very sorry for what he said and never meant for it to be racist or for it to offend anybody.
No I don't think the coach should get fired becasue he didn't mean what he said and there are white and other people on the team that wouldn't take as much offense to it as he did and he should not get fired like other coaches that have did that.
I definitely think that he could have used a better word and that he didn't intentionally mean for it to cause ham when he said it. I think that if would have realized what the word might do or mean to other people before he said it, the he probably would have used a different word. I think the school did the right thing by suspending him, but I think that he should be able to come back next year.
I think that he should be warned or written up, but not suspended or fired. I do not think he should be suspended. He did say that he would resign, but the players didn't want him to.
I don't think he should have used that word because it's disrespectful and it's not something you say especially when you are in a position like he was as a coach. I think it's right that he was suspended, he shouldn't get fired but suspension in my opinion was the right choice in this case.

Yes, I believe he should be suspended. What he said was not right. I don't understand what went through his mind. Plantation is only connected with slaves. With him using the plantation it makes the scenario sound like an owner and his slaves. So yes, I agree he should be suspended.
I think that how he worded it could have been different I think that he meant no racism in the statement but people are misunderstanding what he said and twisting it into a racist statement. I don't think the players even took it as a racist statement but it can't be changed now what was said was said. I think the suspension is just to show that he is taking responsibility for his actions I don't think it was nessacary.
I agree with your statements because he really didn't mean any racism in what he said and people just misunderstood him. I also agree with you when you said the players didn't take is as racist because they didn't really. It is good he is taking responsibilty and he should be back with the team soon.
I don't think his choice of wording was good at all and that he shouldn't have used the word Plantation to describe his team. But since he already talked to his team and they all want him to stay, then it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I also didn't think he was trying to use it in a bad way.
