Court Decides Living Man is Legally Dead

63-year-old Constantin Reliu is legally dead. His wife had processed a death certificate in 2016, although he is still alive. Now, he had been fighting an insane legal battle to earn his life back.

In March, a major setback occurred in his fight when a Romanian court ruled that he could not overturn the death certificate, since his request was filed too late. Mr. Reliu describes himself as a "living ghost." He can't do anything, since no one believes he is alive. He can't get a job, travel, or ever go back to Turkey. He is trying his hardest to prove he exists, by writing the Turkish president, going to different authorities, getting his fingerprints checked, etc. He wants to try another lawsuit, but he is broke and unemployed, as well as diabetic.

1. What do you think that this man's best course of action is at this point?

I think that this man is doing the right thing, but it seems like it isn't his fault, but rather the officials lacking common sense.

2. Why do you think that the court ruled this way that he was legally dead?

I really don't know. I suppose that since his papers had expired, there is a case to be made, but it seems ridiculous to me that a court can decide an obviously living man is dead.

  • Great job Jack!

  • I think he is doing all that he can to make him himself known and prove his existence. His papers most likely expired. They said he is from Turkey which means he may have gotten paperwork in Turkey and possibly they didn't transfer over.

  • I think hes doing the right thing.

    Because people are dumb.

  • Im not sure what hs first couse of action could be i havent heard of anything like this happening. I think contacting the Turkish president is a good start. Im not sure why the court ruled that he was legally dead.

  • I have never heard of something like this happening, so I don't know what I would do in this situation. I would probably try to continue to fight it in court. I think the court ruled it because he waited too long but I don't understand why the court cannot over rule and change their decision if they can see the man before them.

  • 1. To keep fighting, I think it is kinda ridiculous that the people won't believe that he is alive even with all his proof that he has. I would keep trying to reach out to people to prove he is still alive. I am questioning why his wife even made a death certificate if he is still here??

    2. I think they did this because his wife made the certificate and they can't undo it because people don't come back from the dead.

  • To just keep fighting back. The only way he is going to make a point to the legal court is for him to keep fighting. Because it would be a long process of paperwork. I think the courts just being lazy. I'm not sure why he was claimed dead in the first place.

  • I think he should try to get his story out so more people are aware of what is going on. I think the court made a bad decision and I don't really understand how they can say he is legally dead if he really isn't.

    • I agree. I think that he is doing the right thing for doing interviews and getting his story out on the news. The court's decision is just a crazy idea to deem this man dead when he is breaking down in front of people telling his story.

  • I think he should used the media to help himself ,I’m pretty sure some newspaper or  big company will be interesting in his story and will pay him enough to get a lawyer and his treatment for diabetes. And I honestly don’t know why a court will denied the existence of someone when they know that he is still alive.
