In Flordia prosecutors are going to stop pursing the resisiting arrest charges. Alot of police officers are at a high risk of concern about it. They think that these people should be arrested right away before they do more stupid stuff and think they can get away with it. The article stated that people that got charged with a nonviolently resisting charge will have to watch a 30 minute video on respecting the police. But the offenders that have been arrested in the last 6 montes will be prosecuted normally. I agree with the arresting the people that have been arrested in the last 6 monthes but I think they should arrest the other people to.

In my opionion, this article dosent make since. They are pretty much letting the people get away with crimes. And the fact that the police have to watch those people be let go would kill. As much as the police do for our contury they should make the arrest. The people that are trashing the parks, ripping down statues, and just being rude to police, they are the ones that are needed to be arrested for sure. I sure hope Flordia dosent do this because it would cause mass destruction.

All in all, I think this is a dumb thing to do. Just letting people get away with charges is rediculious. We need the police, let them do there jobs of making arrest on crimanals.

If you lived in Flordia would you like this?

If you were a cop would you like what they are doing?

  • Gage, your summary is pretty well done minus a few typographical errors. I do think your qustions could be stronger as well. The big issie is that you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • This is very dumb, but I understand it. Police officers are being put under difficult situations. A police officer is put in a tough position when someone resists arrests. We have seen this many times during the summer. So people need to learn to stop doing this. I think this might just be necessary.

  • It shouldn't matter where I would live, I don't like the idea of these changes. It shouldn't matter if you were arrested within 6 months before or not because you should still  have to pay and serve time for crimes that you commit.  I personally think that watching a video isn't going to have an impact at all because people are still going to commit crimes if they choose too, and they should be arrested right away.

  • No, because I think this would cause a lot of problems for the local and state police. Crime would skyrocket and the cops would not be able to handle the situation. I would try to do my job no matter what they say because cops are there to protect the people.

  • I would not like the resisting arrest charges on it. You shouldn't even think about resisting arrest because things usually get worse off from there. From what you say the police officers are letting people go, but also they stopped pursuing people who resisted arrest.

  • In my opinion, they should continue working normally as they have always been because changing the rules could take a major effect I think they should keep arresting people for major crimes. but I don't think speeding tickets are such a crime to take them to jail.

  • Let's look at the other side of this, let's say that a police officer pulls someone over for speeding, speeding is a non-violent crime and you can be arrested for it. However, it's all up to the officer's discretion, meaning that he or she gets to choose whether of not to arrest the person stopped. I also disagree with your conclusion, if there are less people being arrested for small misdemeanors, then there would be more officers available to arrest larger criminals. They don't need more people writing up parking tickets and pulling people over, we already have enough of those; what we need is more officers ready to help stop actually violent crimes where people are in danger.

  • If I lived in Flordia I wouldn't like this at all. Flordia is pretty much letting crimanals walk free and not letting the cops do their job. I also don't think that this should even be considered aloud since Flordia is full of people that are going to resist getting arrested. If I was a cop in Flordia I wouldn't like this at all because they're not letting me do my job and to be honest I would probally think about quitting my job.

  • I wouldn't like this because they're criminals and are just able to wander the streets without being arrested. Personally I think this is a stupid decision by Florida and it should be changed immediately. If I was a cop I would not like what they're doing because this would make it difficult for me to do my job. And it would make the crime rate go up.

  • I don't think Florida is making the right decisions toward this. People should be held responsible for what that have done, those people who are tearing down statues, resisting arrest, and harassing innocent people and cops. If I lived in Florida, I would be outraged that these people are getting off scott free, if I was a cop I would arrest them on the spot.
