WikiLeaks this week published documents concerning details that the CIA has hacked a series of tech products. The CIA supposedly is hacking or learning how to hack in order to protect us from terrorists. The products with the capability to be hacked include, iPhones, Android devices, WIFI routers and Samsung tvs. So basically every major consumer electronic product has the ability to be hacked. How can you protect your privacy and devices? Android users can use lockscreens, PIN codes, and enable a setting called Verify Apps (which scans apps downloaded from outside of Google's app store for malware). Iphone users can't really do much. For the users that are worried about their safety, you can do the same thing as the Android users. Overall, there isn't much much you can do to protect yourself besides being smart and aware.
Questions:
1.) Do you think the CIA should be able to invade our privacy by hacking our technology? Why or why not?
2.) Are you worried about the CIA hacking your phone, tv, or WIFI router? Why or why not?
My Opinion:
In my opinion, I think that the CIA have a good reason for invading our privacy and technology. They just want to protect us and our country. I just don't necessarily think they should be able to hack whoever they please--especially those who pose no threat. I'm personally not worried about being hacked by the CIA as I am clearly not a terrorist or have anything to hide. I think for most the thought of being hacked just makes them uncomfortable.

I don't think its right that they can just hack peoples phones. Like they are your phone for a reason. I think everyone has a right to their own privacy. I dont thnk they will hack me because I am not that important sooo.
Not many would be okay with being hacked--especially for no reason. The CIA should have to ask or get a warrant in order to hack your phone. Right to a person's privacy is something that is stepped on.. and now its happening again.
If they doe hack my personal belongings and have a warrant I don't really care because I don't think they could find anything on their anyway. The only thing is if they do hack it it slows down speeds and uses more electricity.
I never thought about it like that. But I can see where you're coming from! Do you think that the CIA should be able to hack you with no reason?
I think that the CIA can go into our information if it is needed for a crime or is needed for important information. I don't think that they can go on our stuff if there isn't a valid reason to go on. I would not be worried about them hacking my electronics or accounts because I don't have anything that would suggest I'm planning anything.
I do think that the CIA should be able to get into your things because they are just trying to protect us and make sure nothing happens to us. I do think that they should have to have good reason. They shouldn't be able to just do it when ever they please. The fact that they can hack my phone kinda of makes me uncomfortable and unsafe because that may mean that their might me some sort of terrorist action going on. I think the CIA should have some sort of evidence before they hack into someone's phone.
I think you make a valid point! And as I stated above I think that many people feel uncomfortable with the idea of people hacking their devices. You share a very common view point that I happen to agree with.
I think that the CIA should hack into technology if there is a reason to. I know that the CIA is trying to protect our country, but hacking technology of normal, everyday citizens isn't a good way to spend their time, nor protect us. I'm not worried about the CIA hacking my TV, phone, or WIFI because there isn't anything suspicious to look for.
I agree that with a good purpose and reasoning, the CIA should be able to hack our devices. But I think they should have a warrant, permission, or valid reasoning. Without a valid reasoning, I don't think they have the right to hack anyone; especially innocent people. I think you should only be worried about being hacked if you are suspicious to the government.
