The group was on their way back from church when the van ran a stop sign and crossed all the lanes of U.S. 27 then landed in a canal. No victims names have been released yet, and the family members are still waiting to be informed. One of the survivors were able to crawl out of the van and call for help.

Do we need to step it up as far as safety precautions in larger vehicles?

What do you think contributed to the driver not seeing the stop sign?

  • I think that the driver was probably distracted in some way for this kind of thing to happen. The driver could have been distracted by other passengers in the van, or an object in the car such as a phone or radio.

  • Yes if this is a huge problem everywhere then I do think we need to find ways to prevent this. There could be many reasons just maybe got busy in a conversation not seeing the sign.

  • I am guessing the driver was distracted by all the passengers in the van. It is a sad situation. Being a driver of a larger vehicle is very serious and is a lot of responsibility.

  • Yeah I think there should definitely have upgrades to safety on the bigger vehicles. Probably not paying attention to the road and paying attention to what the people were talking about.
