Chick-fil-a banned because of religious beliefs

Chick-fil-a in San Antonio wanted to move to another location. However, in 2019 the city banned Chick-fil-a from opening because of their beliefs. This restaurant believes they shouldn’t be opened on Sundays because of God. They’re also anti-LGBTQ+. The city banned them from opening because of their beliefs. I don’t agree with this decision even though I don’t agree with Chick-fil-a. The 1st amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…” This ban is going against the Constitution. I believe this is wrong, because Chick-fil-a has the freedom to believe what they want. Meanwhile, I think it’s wrong to share out how you feel about certain topics. I know that you can by law, but this is a sensitive topic. If Chick-fil-a really wants customers to buy their food, then they shouldn’t say as much.

The Department of Transportation offered a lease to Chick-fil-a, because they knew it was against the 1st amendment. There was debate whether the city was going to allow Chick-fil-a in San Antonio or only in airports. I do think Chick-fil-a should be everywhere, because they shouldn’t have to close down a restaurant because people didn’t agree with their beliefs. It doesn’t matter if it’s a business; the business owners can still believe what they want.  In conclusion, the city did decide to keep Chick-fil-a in San Antonio. This decision agreed with the Constitution. To read more click here!

If you were on the city board would you vote to keep Chick-fil-a or to make them only serve in airports?

Do you think the 1st amendment should only include the people's beliefs or the people and business owners?

Do you think it’s wrong for them to share how they feel about LGBTQ+?

  • Great story choice and well done Laney!

  • If I was on the city board I vote vote no to keeping Chick-fil-a, because although they can have their opinions, people of the LGBTQ community like me feel that it is hurtful that they have so much hatred towards us just for loving one another. A professional business should always keep political and religious beliefs quiet to the public. I do think its wrong for them to share how they feel about the LGBTQ community because it is legal to be LGBTQ, so what we are doing is legal and shouldn't be hated.

  • I would vote to keep Chick-fil-a as many people don't care about the beliefs and eat there because they like the food. They should not have to close because of their certain beliefs, if someone doesn't agree with their beliefs than that is there choice to eat there or not but the city board shouln't take the option away for everyone. I do think though that maybe they shouldn't share their beliefs as they are loosing costumers and buisness because of it.

    • I love eat eating at Chick-fil-a. I would vote to keep them open too. What the city did was unfair and rude. Even if we don't agree with something someone says we should still respect them. People can choose whether or not to eat there, but I'm going to keep eatig there.

  • I do agree that they shouldn't be able to close them because of their beliefs. I think it is the customers decision whether they want to go there or not, and the city shouldn't ban it for everyone because of that. Plus, most people don't care about the beliefs and just like their food. If people have a problem with their beliefs, that can be there decision not to go. I do think though that it might not be smart of Chick-Fil-A to be posting about all of their beliefs because it could harm their business, however, that is their choice.

    • I agree. Chick-fil-a should keep quiet if they don't want to lose customers. However, I believe it's dumb that people would not go to eat there because of someones beliefs. I think everyone should keep to themseleves unless talking to family and friends. I think it would some of our problems.

  • I think that I would vote to keep Chick-fil-a becuase if you don't like what their doing then you don't have to eat there. I think the people and business owners should only be included in the first ammendment. I don't think it is wrong because it is freedom of speech and if you don't like what there doing then you don't have to eat there.

    • I agree they don't have to eat there if they don't agree. Personally I don't agree with what they have to say, but I still eat there. I think it was very disrespectful to ban them from serving to others, because they are just speaking from what they grew up with.

  • I definitely agree with you that the San Antonio city board should not be able to ban them from opening just because of their beliefs. If I were on the city board I would definitely vote to keep Chick-fil-a resturants open everywhere, not just in airports. I totally agree that it is a right to be able to share your beliefs because it is in the constituition, so I do not think that Chick-fil-a should be descriminated or getting hate for sharing their beliefs. I think that they get plenty of buisness either way whether they share their beliefs or not, but I do think that they should try to be mindful of others when they do choose to share their thoughts about the LGBTQ+ community.

    • I agree with this. The resturant does get plenty of business, but if I had a bussiness I would still be quieter on what I believe. I would want more business. They are going to get hate on what they share with the world, so they can't complain a lot. Banning them is still wrong though.
