In 1871 the Chicago fire burned for a 2 day span. The fire went from October 8 until October 10. Nobody is really sure exactly how it was casue, but their has been a few different ways thrown around as to how it started or who started it. The main Conspiracy is that a lantern was knocked over and started a barn on fire. The fire was easily spread becasue the condidtions were so dry it allowed everthing to burn very easily. People guessed that the fire was started at the property of Patrick and Catherine O'leary. The fire grew quckly and spread north very easily. The fire killed nearly 300 people and casued around 200 million dollars in damage. It was extremely easy for the fire to build because nearly everthing was made of wood. That reason helped spark the use of more concrete and steel.
However, the O'leary family heavily denies that they started the fire. Even though the fire is considerd to be undetermined most people believe that the fire was started because of the O'leary farm incident. It is also easy to believe it was them because their barn is nearly exactly where the farm started.
In my opinion I do believe that the fire was started due to a farm starting on fire because it all makes sense that that is exactly where the fire came from. However I do not think that their is any exact way to know that it started due specifically to a lantern falling over.
Do you think that the fire was started due to a barn catching fire?
How do you think that the fire was started?

Good topic choice and well done overall Gunner! I do think your summary is just a tad breif. Your last two paragraphs are especially short.
I think that the fire could have been started just as easily by a lightning strike or a cooking fire as a lantern. On the other hand, it would also make sense that if the fire started on a farm it would take much longer to notify people and to get the fire under control, so it's very possible that it did start with a fire somewhere aroudn that area.
I don't think the fire was started from a barn fire. I think it would take more than just a barn to light an entire city on fire. It seems that it was more of a terrorist type thing where someone intentionally tried to do this to affect a large city. Althought there is no way of knowing how it actually happened, I would say that it could have been intentional.
I do belive that the fire started because of the barn catching on fire. Nearly everything in that period of time was made out of wooden, and wood burns extremely well and fast, so it would make sense as to why the whole city caught on fire so quickly. As unfortunate as these events were, they certaintly did help the advancement of cities/technology.
Yes, I believe that it was a barn that had started the Chicago Fire because it is almost exactly where it was, and it is also made out of wood, which is a very good fire starter. I don't think that anyone had intentionally started the fire, so maybe there was a latern that accidentally broke in the barn and it started on fire.
I think that it was a barn that started on fire because it is very close to where it said it was. But we can't blame one person for this, the lanturn could have been anyone around. The barn story judt makes the most sense. It was partly benifital because people then started using concrete and steel more.
I do believe it could have been due to a barn catching on fire. Especially since it was probably wooden and they maybe had hay in there. Since it was very dry that allows everything to go up in flames and burn faster and easier. I think the fire could have been caused by a number of many reasons, but a lantern sounds reasonable.
Yeah, there's a big chance that the barn catching fire would have been the one who started it all because there are usually materials easy to catch fire in a barn in my opinion there was an accident that started the fire, or maybe it was provoked.
I belive that there is a very high chance that a barn fire is what caused the 1871 Chicago Fire especially since everything was made of wood back then. I think that the fire was started by ethier a lantan fire or a barn fire that spreed into the city which caused evrything to burn since most buildings were made of wood.
Yes I think it was started because of the barn because like you said it was exactly where that farm was at. It's hard to say exactly what could have started it but laterns were widley used back then so that makes sense that it wouldve been that.
