Cannibalistic Ant Colony

Early in 2013, a coloney of ants were found in a soviet-era bunker in Poland. The coloney was made up of primarily worker ants with no qween or off-spings in the bunker. The ants seemed to be serviving by eating the Corpeses of their dead bretherine. Because of the lack of food and resorces the ants resorted to eating the onlyother liable food source. There are approxomitly 1 million ants found in the bonker. As a test, small groops were integarated back into Colonys to see results. The ants were found to be exepted back with no agresive behavior.

Do you think that a Qween could be introduced to the tribe or not.

Yes, I Think it could be possible but it might take a while to colonize them if they have no qween and  the qween might not survive if its not use to canabalism.

Do you think the  tribe could revert from canabalism if a food source were provided.

Yes, as stated in the article, the group was placed in another colony joined without any problem so I would assume that it is possible to revert them by giving them a food source.

  • Overall, your summary is brief and your first questions are yes/no questions. This should have been posted by Tuesday but since it was posted before school Wednesday, I'll accept it. -15 late

  • I think that a queen could be introduced to the tribe of ants. I don't really see why she wouldn't fit in with them other than the cannibalism factor. I also think that the tribe could come back from cannibalism if a food source were provided. The ants are only resorting to eating the dead bodies of their colony because there is nothing else for them to eat.

    • I think your right about the qween being re introduced to the colony but it could also be converted to eating the dead to survive. I agree that it could come back if it got a reliable food source because they could supply all they need.
