On Sunday, January 4, Stuart Scott died at the age of 49. He was an ESPN sportscaster and anchor for 21 years. Scott was diagnosed with appendix cancer in 2007 and was diagnosed again in 2011 and 2013. The 8 year battle didn't stop him from inspiring others that are battling cancer. Stuart won an ESPY award in 2014 and had a very moving speech that inspired so many. He said "When you die, that does not mean you lose to cancer, you beat cancer by how you live, why you live and the manner in which you live." This line meant a lot to anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer and one being repeated much on Sunday after his death. Also many athletes paid tribute to Scott, including Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and many more.
If you were to lose, or have lost, someone to cancer, how would you react to what Stuart Scott has said? Why?
Why do you think so many athletes paid tribute to Stuart Scott?
If I were to lose someone to cancer I would have taken his words as very inspirational and even more to the person with cancer. They mean that the person has beat cancer just by living.
I think that all of the athletes lost someone special to them because he inspired so many.

Good choice of stories!
I would be amazed at what he said. Many athletes will pay tribute because maybe Stuart had touched their lives some how but i don't know for sure.
I think Stuart Scott was right about his speech. That's really interesting... I think so many big athletes paid attention to him because he was very inspirational and he never gave up and he even though he was struggling with life, he found ways to help out other people that could be suffering the same thing he is. He sounds like a positive person!
Yeah all of the athletes thought he was a very inspirational man and I'm sure they wanted to be like him because he didn't give up.
I believe Scott was right about everything he said. You win at the game of life by how you live, who you make yourself to be, and why you live to be that person. I believe so may athletes paid tribute to Stuart Scott because he was a respectable man! He respected others and treated them as he liked to be treated. If I were losing to cancer, or I was losing someone to cancer; of course it'd be scary but that doesn't mean I would stop fighting. I would do everything I could to fight on or help them fight on; because life is short and you only have one.
I agree that the athletes respected him because he treated them like they wanted to be treated and he was a good man. I would also too keep fighting if I, or someone else, had cancer because your still alive and that's what counts.
