Most of us have seen the show, 'Sesame Street'. For some, it was their childhood, while others only had seen it a few times, and lastly, some people don't know what Sesame Street is. In this series, the creators put in coping skills for children. For example, Don't hit a person, but hitting a pillow or something is okay. They also talk about safety in this series. One episode, Elmo was feeling unsafe and unsecured, so he built a fort out of blankets to make him feel more safe and secure.
Tara Oakman is a worker at Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Tara says, "These strategies are universal strategies to help children cope..."
Sesame Street in Communities allows for children to watch the known Muppets use these coping skills when they have anger or sadness. Hoping the children watching will influence them to use the same coping skills as the Muppets.
1. Do you think that the children that had watched this show actually used the coping skills that the characters used?
I personally would think that they would do the coping skills. Their 'friends' are doing this, why not them? That is what I would think. It is quite nice to see people incorporating healthy coping skills into their shows.
2. Have you ever watched this series?
No, I have not.

In my opinion, I think that the show would discretely inform and teach the children different coping techniques. When I was younger I watched Sesame Street and was obsessed with the character, Elmo. I liked him because he was so positive and the opposite of me.
Yes because little kids would fall in love a show fast and do whatever they do on TV I know this because of my cousin. A little as a child but I watch different kid shows as a kid and watching my cousin.
I think it might be able to help kids cope with things thqt those kids are used to and if they wouldnt miss out on anything if they didnt watch the tv show. The only think I remeber about the tv show is the characters and different things like that.
I think kids probably do use these copping methods a little bit. It definitely is demonstrating good copping methods for anger and stuff that kids should definitely use to help them.
I think that yes this show teaches children how to cope with things and that those children have used these skills wether they know that they are or not but i think it really does help with coping and yes i have seen this show before.
I think that it could help if thats what there TV program is made for although i think it might be a problem if the children still are old enough to understand what is being taught. I have not watched that series.
1. I think they might but they would not know what they were doing.
2. No, I have not
I think that the children that watch it will get something out of it but I dont think they wont miss out if they dont watch it. I watched it as a kid and I cant rember getting out of it. I probably have when I was younger but not know it would be to boring for me.
I feel like the children actually use the methods taught on TV. Kids are very impressionable and copy whatever they see others do. If they see characters on TV doing an activity, they would want to try it out themselves. I know I was like this when I was younger. It is even better of the coping methods work for the children. They would want to keep doing it if it makes them happy or makes them feel safe.
I agree with your statement that children are very impressionable and imitate others' around them. I think every child goes through that and learns that it isn't always the best choice.
