Some people think bigger kids are only bullied at school. But, that's not always the case. Lots of big-kids are bullied at home and suffer emotional pain from it, even if the bully thinks they're trying to help the kid. Obese children are 65% more likely to be bullied than their peers of normal weight. A study from 2006 showed that 72% of almost 2,500 overweight & obese women had been made fun of by family members because of their weight. Michelle Obama is has created a campaign to reduce childhood obesity from 20% to 5% by 2030. Obesity is a problem, but maybe people shouldn't be stressing the diet end of it as much as they are. Maybe people need to be given a lesson on how much their words, especially coming from family members, can potentially damage someone for their entire lifetime. I have experienced this myself, and it's much worse than a kid at school calling you fat. Next time you see someone bigger than you, don't laugh or think they're a failure, because there just might be something going on that's a much bigger problem for them than just their weight.
I hate seeing big people get bullied, and I hate getting bullied myself.
and whoever said we "bring it on ourselves" uh, no, we don't.
some people just have a touch time with losing weight, such as myself and other friends I have
I exercise and eat properly but it doesn't work much...
Its horrible to make some hate themselves for something they can't help.
and yes, I realize, SOME people can help it if they tried... still, how would you like it someone teased you constantly for being too tall, or too short, or too skinny, or too pale, or too tan?? You wouldn't like it much, I am sure of that!
I agree -- we don't bring it on ourselves.
In my house, the only things my mom buys are junk because its 'cheap' or 'on sale'. Then she turns around and makes fun of me and my dad both for being big. Well I'm sorry, but she's no skinny minny eather.
It's not the kids fault if they get picked on. It's the one doing the picking. They can choose if they want to bully them or not, the kid can't make that decision for them
Yeah, my mom calls me fat sometimes, but it doesnt make me depressed or anything, it actually makes me want to lose weight, not like go and drown myself in food. It is very mean to bully though.
It is very sad that people get picked on. I makes me very mad when others do it, but we do need to but a stop to obesity. How about a change in the lunch food? Honestly couldnt they make something appealing that is also healthy? instead of mystery meat? I wait till i get home to eat some days, and at home my mom and i can be kind of health food freaks. and every night if i dont have too much homework or practice doesnt get over too late then i love to go on long night runs, i find them relaxing and they help me blow off steam.
I think that people that are bigger are beautiful and brave because they have to go around everyday looking the way they do with people picking on them and that takes guts because a lot of people just sit there and take it. they dont ever say anything back when someone picks on them. and that takes guts because i think it would be really hard to just take that.
