On Febuary 16 at 12:00, three floors of a buliding in St. Petersburg, Russisa collapsed. 86 people evacuated before the collapsed happen and now rescue units are looking throught the rubble to see if they can find any bodies. The rescue units are using dogs to help them see if there is anybody trapped underneath all the rubble. There hasn't been any bodies or casualites found yet. They still have not found out why the buliding collapsed. A case has been open up to examine the safety violations during construction of the building. The building belonged to St. Petersburg Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics.
1. Why do you think the building collasped?
I think the building could have been really old and it didn't have a good structure. I think the building could have termite damage which could make the building less sturdy.
2. How can businesses know if their building are not going to collase?
I think that they should always check up on the building especially during the construction of the bulding to make sure the people that are building it know what they are doing. They should also have building inspections regularly to make sure that the building is keeping up with all current regulations.

Good job overall Konner! I do think your questions could be stronger.
There are many reasons why th ebuilding could have collapsed. Poor constructions, bad maintenence, or something else could have caused the collapse. Businesses should regularly get their buildings inspected for safety.
I agree you with you grace I think that the building was getting less sturdy and just getting old and then it just fell. I agree that when it was build it didn't have a good scture to being with and they should have gooten more people opinion about things to improve on.
I think the building could have been old and just not stable enough anymore. When it's built back then the structure is not as strong as buildings today. I think businesses should get people to come look at the building and see if it is safe for people to be near it and see if they can improve things.
I don't think that the building had a good structure to being with so when it got older and older it got less sturdy and then it just collasped. I that business should take more responbility in building they building and should make sure that they have a good structure and are using a good material to make sure that their building will be good.
The building was most likely old or had structural damage. Older buildings often have unsafe structures. In the United States most buildings have to be inspected to be sure they are safe, and newer buildings are built with very strong structures. And there are guidelines business's have to follow.
There could be many reasons as to why the building crashed, but most likely is due to structural issues. Depending on the materials for which the building was constructed it could have been much more. Obviously businesses can have annual safety inspections. Regular inspections help keep people safe from instances like this.
The building was more than likely really old and wasn't made out of structurally sound materials or at least it wasn't made very well. It also could be the contractors hired to build this building cou have taken shortcuts and not really care what condition the building was in. If you hired professional contractors that have really good reviews then that would lesson your worries.
The structure of the building probably worsened over many years and then it was just enough to finally collapse. They need to have professional inspectors check out the buildings to see if they are up to code every once in a while.
David I think the building didn't have a good construction. I think that it didn't have a good structure to being with and as time went on it just got weaker and weaker. I think that businesses should make sure that they have a good construting to make sure that building will stay steady and safe.
