Brotherly Love

A pair of brothers from the Atlanta area are behind bars.  They were charged with multiple felonies this weekend after police said they attempted to kill their parents. On Saturday morning, Yvonne Ervin called 911 reporting that she and her husband, Zachary, were being attacked in their own home. She told police that the perpetrators were their own children: 17 year old Cameron and 22 year old Christopher. Yvonne said that her sons were trying to kill her and her husband, and that her husband distracted the boys so she was able to call the police.

When police arrived at the Ervin house, Zachary was found with a lot of head and body injuries and stab wounds on his back. He was hospitalized in critical condition. Yvonne also had blunt force trauma, but not as severe as Zachary.

The sons, who both live with their parents, were at the house when police arrived and were arrested immediately. The sons had also planned to burn the home down. Both Cameron and Christopher have been charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and two felony counts of first degree arson.

What do you think would cause someone to harm their parents? What type of punishment do you think they deserve? Why?

I think that the only thing that would cause someone to do this would be that the boys were mistreated by their parents when they were kids, and now they are seeking some sort of revenge. I think that the brothers should be put into jail for their crimes, and the entire family should go to counseling!

    • I agree with you! I can't imagine trying to hurt my parents!

  • I think it's sad how Yvonne and Zachary can't even be safe in their own home. It's also sad that the two brothers don't have anyone that can provide love and support like parents in their lives. I'm guessing it's that lack of security that got them into this situation. Also, these boys are 17 and 22; they should be going to college or have stable jobs, instead they are trying to kill their parents. Their parents don't need to house them anymore because they should be able to live on their own now, but they do and the boys should be thankful for that. Obviously, this family needs some serious healing between all of them, but the boys need to learn that attempting to kill anybody is not okay.

    • I agree with you!

  • I think that the boys had some sort of mental health problem or they could have been on some drugs but I think that they deserve some serious jail time.

    • I agree! I think that jail time will punish them, and then counseling or rehab will take care of any more problems!

  • I think that they should be charged, and sent to prison.  They could have done this to their parents because they could have possibility been on drugs, and drinking.

    • That's very possible, I can't imagine trying to kill my own parents!

  • I agree, Kara, that the brothers were probably not treated very well. I can also imagine that they may have been a little insane. I can't really imagine trying to take the lives of my parents or what they would have to do in order for me to even think about it. I think the brothers should definitely be put in prison for a long time, and I think they should probably be put in some kind of a rehab center.

    • I agree! I also can't imagine trying to hurt my parents, especially after all they have done for me!
