As of today police have officially pronounced a woman and her four children, which were between the ages of 1 and 9, dead in their Brooklyn apartment. The woman's husbands malicious cousin, Mingdong Chen who had been living with the family for a week, randomly stabbed the whole family to death. 3 of the 5 victims were found dead at the scene. The other 2 were sent to nearby hospitals were they eventually passed on as well. Their was a weapon uncovered at the scene and is claimed to be some sort of kitchen or butcher's knife. Officials are almost certain it is the murder weapon. Chen is being charged with third degree murder. It was also found out that Chen has a criminal record of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and criminal possession of a weapon charges.
What are your thoughts on this tragedy? Do you think the charges are appropriate? Why? or Why not? given the violent cousin's history.

I have no idea! I truly think their is more behind this story. I think the cousin has had serious physiological problems in the past or suffered something traumatic.
He needs to have the steepest charge that he can be given. In this situation, life in prison would be the worst punishment, leaving him to think, and feel guilt about everything he's done. Why someone this psychopathic was released, I don't know. I personally think our justice system is flawed.
I totally agree with that statement! In my opinion he should have been admitted into a mental hospital after the last jail time he served. I think he needs serious help, because not only did his kill his own family he has been charged with several other murders as well. He either needs to spend life in prison, or someone needs to help him figure out what is wrong and how he can to overcome this violent lifestyle.
I think that the family never should have had this criminal living with them in the first place. I know he was family and everything but sometimes you just need to say no. I think that this guy should be put in prison for life with no bail with all the charges he has against him it is very necessary for something of the degree to happen.
That guy shouldn't have been on the streets if he had that many counts of murder. I also don't understand how stabbing multiple people to death is only 3rd degree murder. And what would the family had done to deserve to be stabbed; especially the children.
Those are my thoughts exactly! How is he not still serving time for all of the other serious crimes he committed. I do not understand why officials weren't keeping closer tabs on him. After being charged with more than one accounts of murder you would think he would not be aloud to free citizenship. The family was doing an extremely kind and generous thing, and I do not get how Chen got the urge to gruesomely murder not only the mother, but the young innocent children. It all just does not add up. I think there is more to Chen's issue. Some kind of mental disorder.
Why would any cousin do this to there family. This is so stupid. They give you a home and then they gie you food and water and you just go and kill them.
Exactly! They were keeping him away from having to live on the streets and deal with all of the violence that the street life includes. You would think he would learn after paying time for all of the other charges he had.
