Body Found on Mexico's Highest Peak

Mexican authorities planned a recovery mission to get a dead body off of Mexico's highest peak at 17,388 feet. The peak goes all the way up 18,406 feet, so the person either didn't make it back down, or never made it up. Investigators asked climbers to help them recover the body that was found. The body appeared to be mummified in a glacier on top of the volcano. The President of the Mexican Alpine Club said he remembers no climber that was unaccounted for in the past 50 years. After the body is recovered they will do tests on it to see who it is and how old the body is. I would have been amazed finding a body all the way up that high on a climb. It would also be cool if the body turned out to be super old.

What would have been your reaction if you find a mummified body in the ice?

Would you ever volunteer as a climber to go up and recover a dead body?

  • Good job!

  • I would have exploded with excitement, wonder, and curiosity.  I would volunteer to go up and recover a dead body, but not to go to the top. Then I'd be in the mummies position. No thank you.

  • I would be freaked out. If I was in a career field that did that, but as of right now no.

    • If I was a good climber I might consider it. I'd probably do it if they paid me for it.

  • I pry would if I was a climber but me right now not being a climber I would definitely not do that.

  • I'd be freaked out. Maybe, because it'd be good for science.

    • I agree. If the body turned out to be very old it could contain some interesting thing that could help us understand the past more.

  • I would be intrigued. Like they said, everybody who's been up there was accounted for in the last 50 years, so odds are the body is much older than that.

Maybe, I don't really know because I've never even climbed just for fun.

  • I probably would've jumped back enough that I would have started rolling back down the mountain. That's not the kind of thing I would volunteer for.

    • Yea that's definitely not the type of thing you want to see while on a dangerous hike up a mountain. I don't think I'd do it unless they paid me quite a bit of money.
