Researchers have recently developed a blood test that can test for Alzheimer's disease with extreme accuracy. They say that the test can help determine whether a not a healthy person will develop the disease. They hope that someday it will be possible to go into a doctor's office and be told whether or not you have the disease. The only way to predict if you have Alzheimer's at the time is to have a PET scan or a Spinal tap. Both of these things are expensive, unreliable and risky. Researchers have been working to develop a test to detect Alzheimer's for many years. During their research, they have confirmed that lipids or fats are a contributor to Alzheimer's. In one case, researchers were able to catch Alzheimer's before the patient even had symptoms. I think that this test sounds amazing, and I can't believe how much medical advancement has been made.
What do you think about this test? Would you get tested to see if you had Alzheimer's? What other diseases do you think they should develop these types of tests for?

Well done Emma!
It's an important discovery in science because its a very common disease. I would definitely get tested for it later in my life. It makes things look up for cancer research.
I completely agree, it is a huge step forward in medical research. Hopefully it leads to more tests such as this one.
I think this is a great advancement in medicine! If my family had a history of Alzheimer's, I would get tested. I think if they could do this for various types of cancers they could save many lives.
I completely agree. I also think that when this test is available that they should work on creating tests for other diseases and illnesses such as cancer.
I think this is awesome. Maybe someday they can all do it prenatal....then you'll know from the time you're born to when it happens.
That is a great idea! With all the medical advancement that has been made, I don't think like this task is too far away from being reached.
this would help so many people because they could be prepared for it when it hit because they are going to forget nearly everything or become very forgetful. I would see just to see if i had it and if I did then I would tell my family. If I didn't then I don't have it and I know that I will not become a scatter brain. if they get this accomplished then they could see if you have any thing else and they could even predict if your children will get the disease.
It really is incredible to have the power to find out whether or not you could contract a disease like Alzheimer's. I also agree that it would be amazing if they could predict if your children will get the disease.
I think this would be very useful. I would get tested to see if I had it only if they found another way to do the test though because I wouldn't get tested if those were the only ways you could.
