The capital of China was choking on sand on monday when the biggest sandstorm in the past ten years hit and turned the sky orange. Visibility was extremely low and the air was deemed “hazardous” and people were advised to stay indoors to protect themselves from breathing in the sand and dust. People still trucked on throughout the day, though, and went as far as to ride their bike through the storm most people were forced to turn their car lights on during the middle of the day.
China already has been known for having bad pollution due to their high population rates. The sand storm only worsened the pollution. Sandstorms are caused by deforestation and ecological disasters. The chinese government has spent millions towards preventing these sand storms. Sources say the storm originated in Mongolia and spread to Beijing. They are expected to last through next Tuesday.
Why do you think some people decide to go out when the air is too dangerous?
Could pollution be a cause of sandstorms happening?

Anna,
Be sure to include more of your thoughts and opinions and less of just a story summary. Your summary is also a bit brief as well. Good job replying to students!
There isn't any other choice than to go outside. People will just have to breathe dusty air to get their necessities. Pollution is probably a big factor since the air quality can lead to bda soil and trees dying.
I think some people go out just to see what the sand storm is like but I think some people have to get the necessities and have to get out. I think pollution could be a cause of the sand storms, but I think its unlikely that pollution does cause it. I can't think of a way it would.
I think some people wanted to go out and see if it was actually as bad as others were saying. I also think that people wanted to go out just to say they went out in the sand storm. I suppose that pollution could have caused the sand storm, but I’m assuming the cause of the sandstorm was from the cutting down of trees or some type of weather system passing through China.
I agree with you. Some people wanted to look like there wasn't a problem or a big issue and it was just normal as the smog they encounter everyday. Pollution could be a factor since the air quality and amount of people there can lead to unhealthy soil and trees dying, which would make the soil dry up and sandy.
People still go outside because they have no other choice. Its either they go to work risking breathing in the dusty air, damaging their lungs, or stay home losing a chance to gain money for your family, which are struggling. The pollution problely was not the main reason why it occur but it problely was one of the factors.
I think that people went out in the store because you have to go where you have to go. Yes it is dangerous and you probably shouldn't leave the house but some people still have to get to work and other places. Pollution could be a cause of the sandstorm but I really don't know.
I agree with you. It is extremely dangerous, but people need to go to work and make their living wages. China is a very hard place to live due to the government and the overpopulated areas. This makes it hard to find a job and receive good pay. Pollution could be a factor since the air can kill plants and cause the soil to get dried up and eventually sandy.
I agree with you. Some jobs don't see this as a big deal and want people to come to work to make money for the bosses still. A lot of jobs are like this. They see their employees as replaceable and don't care about the safety or health about them as long as they are making them money. That's true, but that's because the desert is suppose to have sand and China is not. From all the smog and polluted air, it kills wildlife and trees which is a form of polution and leaves behind dry sandy soil that is caught in wind, just like in the desert. Hurricanes are also linked to polution because they occur more due to our planet temperature warming up, which leads to bigger and more frequent hurricanes. Our planet is warming up from pollution, air and ground.
I believe, people went out even when the air is dangerous because it may be an emergency like someone got injured or someone needs medication. Pollution could very well be the cause of the sandstorms because pollution blocks out the sun and If the trees die they may fall over and cause more dust and dirt to kick up and fly in the wind.
