Basketball taken a little to seriously?

Basketball is a sport that america has come to know and love as a whole. some people apperently like it a little to much. Yesterday (2/20/22) was the michigan vs. wisconsin game. words between Joe Krabbenhoft (wisconsin assitant coach) and Juwan Howard (Michigan coach) were exchanged and lead to Juwan slapping Joe on the head and even more crazy leading to a full on two team fight.

In a line shaking hands after the game (final score being 77-63 Michigan losing). Greg Gard (Wisconsin coach) was seen grabbing Juwan saying somthing. Most people don't really know what was said. Juwan going to move on and keep shaking hands thats when Gard was seen grabbing Juwan's left hand and stopping him from shaking more hands. (which made Juwan mad).

Thats when Joe Krabbenhoft was seen come over raising his voice. Leading to the hand thrown by Juwan Howard. Staff trying to seperate the two, players fighting other players, the crowd going wild. it only seems to escalate till what seems to be authorities get there.

Whats the after math after something like that look like? Well, Juwan was givin a $40,000 fine along with a suspension.  Greg gard (Wisconsin head coach) was givin a 5 game suspension along with a $10,000 dollar fine. and some players were givin a one game suspension.

Was this taken to far?

Whose in the wrong here?

Were the punishments correctly?

  • Good topci choice Keegan! Be sure to capitalize words that should be in your summary. I also think your sumamry could be longer-be sure to add your personal thoughts. Good job replying to students! -10 one day late.

  • Not saying this is right, but its a sport. Your soft if you think this was taken to far and wrong. This all compition. This is sports for you, its all talk, once your talking trash it goes all game. The punishments were probably correct but unescary to be that much of a fine.

  • I think yes, this was taken too far. I think the anger built up and caused a physical interaction between the two. I think that the coach was in the wrong and if he is not mature enough to take a loss then he should  not be coaching basketball.

  • I'm not a big basketball guy but I think that starting a physical fight was going too far. Its not anybodys fault that one team is worse than the other. One team won fair and square and the other lost fair and square, there is no need to start a fight and than almost the entire team gets suspended.

  • This was taken too far, the game ended and there was nothing anyone could do. This was an over reaction and I think the punnishment is fitting for what the coach did.

    • I agree I think the coaches were punished correctly

  • I think it was taken way too far. The game was over, and there was nothing the teams could do about the outcome. I especially would not expect behavior like this from the coaches. I think anybody who got involved is in the wrong, but the fines are crazy high.

  • I think that both people where in the wrong. I do not think it is necessary to get physical over a sport game. I think the punishment was a bit much. What they did was wrong but  $40,000 fine is a lot of money.

    • Yeah thats true 40,000's crazy but I do think the coaches were way out of hand.

  • I think in no circumstance of how a game goes should coaches resort to violence. If you get violent over a basketball game you should not be a coach. A good coach should have composure and accept a loss when it comes. I think they are both in the wrong and it could've been handled differently.
