The amount of plastic straws we use everyday is crazy. I think by now we all know that we need to convert the way we live on this planet to help preserve civilization. Environmentalists have been trying to tell us Americans to make better choices to conserve resources. They have been trying to tell us this since around the 1970’s and no one has made a huge impact to conserve our resources. Some of the candidates running for the 2020 election want to make a difference in how we live and treat our planet. But they have so much to cover, so they started with straws. Senator Kamala Harris said that she would like to totally eliminate the use of plastic straws. The problem with this though, would be having to use paper straws unless you have a metal straw. Most of paper straws are very low quality, which makes it difficult to drink out of, and they get soggy after a short period of time. If you would like to read more click here.

I think banning plastic straws would be a start in helping our environment, but there are many other little things we need to do to help our environment as well.

I like the idea about paper straws, but I personally think they would need to make them more efficient for people.

1. - I think it would, but it will take awhile to get them all out of the ecosystems like the oceans that we keep hearing about. If we banned staws today, it might take close to 6 months to get most straws out off the environment and even then it still might be a little late for this to be getting fixed now. But it would be worth the shot to try to fix things before they got to much further out of hand.
2. - I think paper straws might help a little, but really paper and plastic are both things that are effecting out environment today. These things should both not be used if we are looking to change what we use to drink out of.
I think it might help a little bit but it will be hard to compelty get rid of them and it would suck at restaurants and things that use the straws. I think it is a good idea but i do not really know how it would work out that well.
No, I think that it wont help because it is just one tiny piece of enviormental pollution. I dont like them because they are realy just another way to waste matirials and are low quallity, and it can ruin the taste of your drink.
Yes, I think by getting rid of them it would help our environment a lot in many ways. For example like helping out the sea animals, the ocean, and more. I think paper straws are fine and work well but i agree that if it sits too long it gets all soggy and I don't like that part, but they could make paper straws with something more sturdy so they wont sog that easily.
I do think that we should ban plastic straws because of how much plastic we use and it's not good for the environment and yes we would probably not have that much plastic in the world we could use other resources that wouldn't harm the environment. We need to create things friendly to the environment. I don't really like the thought of paper straws because would be killing the trees to do it which is not needed and paper straws don't last that long and you take really rewash them or reuse them like metal and plastic straws.
If we ban plastic straws all it will do is lower the price of plastic -due to the straw companies not needing the plastic it would be less in demand. Because of this other companies would be able to get more plastic for less money. So, lets say plastic straws are banned. Solo Cup Company now has to pay less money for plastic and can produce more cups for less money. All this is doing is putting the harmful resources in other places.
It probably will not solve all of the enviromental issues we are having, but I think anything will make some difference, which is good. Also, if we start with straws we can begin to ban more things, like plastic cups or plastic silverware and come up with new alternitives.
I have tried paper straws before and I personally am not a fan. However, I know that there are many people who can come up with new things to make it more efficent for people.
I think that banning plastic straws would help our environment by keeping lakes and rivers clean. I feel like paper straws would be better for our enviroment but they have to make the paper straws safe for the people.
I think banning plastic straws would be tough, but could be done with the help of people and a great way to help clean up and make our world better, but is only a small part of plastic in the world. I don't like the idea of paper straws replacing plastic straws because using paper straws would mean that we would have to start cutting down trees because we would need the paper.
