Back to the Moon?

Nasa is planning a return to the moon for 2024. There are many goals NASA has set to accomplish on this mission. Firstly the people at NASA believe it will help inspire a future generation. They think we need a launch because the moon hasn't been walked on since the Apollo missions in 72. Secondly they are using this trip to help lay the foundation for a trip to mars. NASA has been talking about wanting to go to mars and they believe that the mission starts with getting back into the groove of things again.

Lasty they see this mission as an opportunity to send a woman to the moon. Although a woman has been in space, there has never been a woman on the moon. During this trip they are planning to go with commercial and international partners to be able to explore vast amounts of the moon and do it at a much more efficient rate.

Although this mission overall sounds great for scientists, NASA predicts the trip will cost roughly between 20-30 billion (yes BILLION) dollars. NASA receives their fundings from congress. Some are concerned about their tax money and how much goes towards NASA. For each tax dollar, a little over one penny goes towards NASA funds. For a family who pays $6,630 only $33 go to NASA. It's not taking as much money out of Americans pockets as you would think. The trip is planned to take

 Is it worth the cost?

Do you think the trip is helping plan for Mars?

  • Kadense,

Good topic choice but be sure to include more of your voice and opinion within your summary. You didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • I believe that it would be worth the money to go back to the moon because the last time it was brief and with little technology. Though we learned a lot from the previous visit, I think that now with our advance in knowledge and technology we will learn much more.

  • I belive it is very much worth the cause. At the rate our planet is dying, space travel is our guarenteed future and it is high-time that we begin going further than we have ever gone before. This trip will help us test our abilities in space travel and we can use it to start planning a route to Mars.

  • I don't think that going back to the moon is worth the cost, I'm not saying that it would be completely useless but I feel like we wouldn't accomplish much going there again. I'm not sure if it could help to plan the trip to Mars but it's really expensive, I think that they could find other ways to help planning that.

  • I think going back to the moon is a great idea, but we have already been to the moon. It's been a long time though since we've been to the moon, but they should save the money and put towards going to Mars because it would be just as educational to go to Mars then it would be to go to the moon again.

  • Although we haven't been to the moon since 1972, what are we really accomplishing going back? It's an amazing experience that we learn a lot from, but we alrady know so much about the moon and I think that that money could maybe go towards the mission to Mars. Not to say it's unimportant, but we could utilize tax dollars so much better. However, we do have a lot better technology than we did almost 50 years ago, so I could see how it could be somewhat beneficial.

  • I think that this trip is worth the cost. This allows women to go on the moon as well as men did in the past, and that is very important not just for history but also for other young girls that are looking into being an astronaut. This also allows exploration, which is always important.

  • I feel that it is nto worth the money. However, if we start taxing for the trip now, by 2024 the cost could have added up enough to support the trip. It would be very new to see a woman on the moon and I think it will inspire young women. The trip will help little girls everywhere realize that they can do anything that they put their minds to.

  • I'm not sure it would be completely worth the money that it costs to go back and walk on the moon because we have robots we can send back up there and get information. I think it could help people prepare for travel on mars, but it might be better to send fewer people up there so it may lower the cost.

  • I think that the cost of this trip was worth it. It finally allowed for a women to step on the moon. Also stepping on the moon is just the start of the experience we need in space if we want to go to mars.  And taking trips to the moon will help us find easier ways to transport people to the moon and try to figure out the complications they could run into.
