Big Ten Football Returns

The Big Ten Football season is set to return the weekend of October 24th. The league presidents unanimously voted to play a football season this fall after voting to postpone the season on August 11th. Teams will be required to test everyday and willl be monitored closely.Families of the players will be the only ones attending the games. The season will consist of an 8 game+1 schedule and is on schedule for teams to still qualify for the College Football playofss. Personally, I believe it was the right season to start the season. In my opinion, the players are safer when they are with the team since they are college students and right now students are not taking the virus and its protocols seriously. I supported the decision of the presidents that decised to postpone the season last month because no one knew how well a football season would work with the current pandemic. But after a few weeks of other conference games, they knew there was a chance it would work. The players will follow protocols if they really want to play this season. The daily testing will also help the slow the spread and prevent an outbreak on team from happening.  If everyone works together to stay safe, this season will work.

Do you think it is the right decision to start a season with the current pandemic? Explain.

  • I believe it was the right decision to start the Big Ten football season as they found a way to make it safe as possible. I think the daily testing will really help prevent the spread of COVID-19 between teammates and opponets.

Do you think the season will last all 9 games? Explain.

  • I think the season will last all 9 games, because everyone knows how easily the virus can spread. I think everyone wants to have this season and they will follow the required protocols to keep their teammates and themselves safe.

  • Good topic choice and well done Brody!

  • I think it is absolutely the right decision to start a season right now. like you said if the players really want to play they will have to follow the protocols way more then most of them probably would have been. I think the season will last all 9 games.

  • I do think it was the right decision to start the Big 10 as they are doing it very safely. They are doing as much as they can to keep all the players healthy so they can finish all 9 games and I think if they continue doing that, they will okay. The players getting tested eveyday is also going to help the spread of Covid so they can continue their season.

  • I think that they could start the season even during the pandemic. As long as the teams keep who they came in contact with to a minimum. It can be like a team quarantine. You see your family and your team and that is it. You could also have testing, and not allowed people at the games.

  • I think that it will be ok that they start the football season because they are all very healthy and if they get tested every  day then there is no risk of them spread corona so their will be no risk so there is no pont in not starting the season so I think that it is fine that they play the games

  • I personally don't know why the Big Ten did not start the season the same time the rest of NCAA Conferences started. Since the start of the season i have yet to read or see any news about any postive Covid-19 tests amoug football players. If the NBA, NFL, NASCAR, and Forumla 1 can have their seasons and there moments under the lights or on the track, I dont see why the college athelets can't have theirs.

  • I do beileve it was the right decision for big 10 to start football season. I think most players are going to stay safe and healthy. It also helps that they have to get tested everyday. That will help slow the spread. I think the season will last 9 games because of everything the players have to do like getting tested everyday and being monitored closely.

  • I just feel like the world needs to go back to normal and make it a choice of the persons'. No I don't think they'll last all nine games because the governement make this carona virus seem to be way to big than it really is. So, the governements going to try to taake down the season I feel like.

  • I really don't think it is the right decision to start playing big ten sports. The pandemic is really bad at the moment and anything we can do to help slow the spread should be taken seriously. Even though they're still doing a football season I think it is great that they are taking precautious measure by doing things like daily testing. I'm not sure if it will or will not last all 9 games. The virus could potentially hit one of the teams leaving the other teams without someone to play against.

    • Mason, I do not agree with your stand on the decison on the Big Ten starting back up the season. I understand where you are coming from, but it is already too late to stop the spread, the only way to slow this virus down is the vaccine and we need to get back to our everyday lives.
