Avalanche in France Kills 4

4 people were killed in an avalanche at the French Alps Ski Resort of Tignes and 5 more are missing. A person at the resort said the people killed in the avalanche was a ski instructor and 3 people out of a family of 5. The other 2 people from the family are missing. The avalanche was 400 meters wide and a reporter said there is very little hope of finding the other people. The Tignes resort website said the risk of an avalanche was a 3 out of 5 that day.

If you knew the risk of an avalanche was a 3 out of 5 would you still go?

If your family members were trapped in an avalanche what would you do?

1. I would not go skiing that day if I knew the risk was that high.

2. I would just hope that the search team will do everything they can do to find them.

  • I would most definitely not go if i knew there was going to be an avalanche because life only happens once and i don't want to ruin it just to ski that one day. If my family members were trapped i would personally go out and find each and every one even though it might take an extremely long time.

  • No, I wouldn't go because I wouldn't want to possibly die. I would do anything possible to help find them.

  • If I knew that the risk was that high i most likely wouldn't go skiing for awhile. I would probable wait a while so the area calms down. I would be very devastated and hope that the search team would do there best to find them. This would be very hard for the family.

  • If I  knew that the risk were high that day, I would not have gone skiing. Even if I really wanted to go I would not have risked my life. I would have just gone another day. If my family was trapped I would have made sure that there were search teams out looking and doing anything possible to make sure that they were okay. I would be so scared if that was my family.

  • I don't think I would go but why wouldn't the ski resort be closed that day if they knew it was that bad. I would hope that people would start looking every where for a long time and I would probably help as well.

  • If I would know the area and trust that that part would be ok then I might consider it, but it would be unlikely for me to go. If it's off-piste then no way I'm going. Mountains and avalanches are not something to be messed with. Also the instructor must have told the family of the risk and considered where they should go to avoid avalanches. I would trust them to know what they are doing. I myself would be terrified though.

  • I would definitely not go skiing if the risk of a avalanche was that high. If my family was trapped and i wasn't then id call for help first off. Then id see if i could try and find them and help them out of the snow. But there is not much i would be able to do since im only a kid.

  • If I knew that the risk was that high i wouldn't go skiing that day. I wouldn't doing anything ut hope and pray that they were found because there's really nothing i could do.

  • I would still go skiing but i would take all safety precautions, such as a small shovel with me and maybe a tracker

    2. look for small clues such as maybe a foot sticking out of a part of the ski and go dig them out as quick as possible
