More than 15,000 fires across Australia had destroyed 28.32 million acres over one year. These fires have destroyed multiple villages and threatened even more. The fires burnt brush, forests, and parks across Australia.
As of July of 2020, nearly three billion animals died from the fire. This includes 143 million mammals, 2.46 billion reptiles, 180 million birds, and 51 million frogs. Also, the reason the reptile count is so high is because there are a lot more reptiles per acre.
Bbc.com states that 33 have died including four courageous firefighters. The fires have been crawling closer to the capital, and the fires shut down airports. It is predicted that there were at least 25,000 koalas that were killed by the fires.
How do you think these fires started?
Where would you go if the island you are on is slowly going up on fire?

Greg,
This story is quite old so be sure to include when this happened in your summary. Also, your summary is quite breif and is not focused on your opinons and thoughts. You also didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.
These kind fires are often caused because of a dry season. It could have just been a simple bon fire gone wrong and everything continued to burn and acted as fuel because it had a limited amount of moisture. If an island I was on went up in fire and my living space was effected by it, I'd probably go to the opposite side of the island that it's happening. They also probably have aids there, which could supply some kind of shelter, a bed, food, and clothing.
As no one knows how exactly the fires started, I believe they started due to Australias dry enviroment and maybe a drought. Even a small spark could have started these huge wildfires. If I was on an island and it started going up in flames, I would look for places to go and move to and try to leave the island as quickly as possible.
I think it is because of a big drought which makes it a lot easier for the ground to start on fire and to be able to spread very easily. I would probaly try and move away as far as I could before it go to out of hand and then I would probaly try and leave the country.
I belive that the fires started due to Australia's naturally dry enviroment and due to the fact that it often doesn't rain in Australia. If I was on an island that was slowly going up in flames, I would start looking for places to move to, while also staying on the island for as long as posible.
I think that the fires were started by a drought and then a spark hit the dry grass and brush and then it just cought on fire and evey thing that was dry and then it just keep going and if I were there I would just try to get out but if I could not then I would just try and help other people
I think they probally got started by dry grass or tress that were around the area. I would go on a boat and find my way at least out to sea and try to find another island or try to call someone that I would know to help save me. Also, i would bring water to make sure I stay alive.
While no one knows the exact reason the fires have started, it could be anywhere from droughts, global warming, or just human erres. It is crazy and sad to think about all the lives lost to humans and animals and all the land that is being destroyed. If I was on an island that was on fire I would probably move back in with my parents or any of my siblings.
I think the fire was started from a combinations of things, such as the drought thats been ravaging australia. Another reason might've been a random spark, or a lightning bolt that hit an especially dry piece of brush/grass. It could have even been a cigarette that wasn't put out properly.
I think these fires started from many things. It could be the drought or things like a fire started by someone. There really isn't a way to find out how these fires really started. If the island I was on was being burned by a fire then I would just try to help as many people and animals as possible. I wouldn't just leave knowing I could help save so many lives.
