It's nice to know that just 92 years after women were given the right to vote in the United States with the 19th Amendment(1920) that Augusta National Golf Club will FINALLY accept women as members. Many of you may know Augusta for the fact that The Masters Golf Tournament is played there every April.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina businesswoman Darla Moore will be the first women to be allowed to join. Read more here.

Augusta National has also been accused of not only sexism over the years, but also blatant racism. Here is a good article that talks about the racsim issue.

  • It looks like that no matter how much our nation is based on equality that there will still be the slim few that don't change it's a horrible reality that some people still think they are better or have more rights than others

  • I am very surprised that woman are still not getting treated equally. Especially not being allowed to join a golf club that host the Masters Golf Tournament. Its just people need to say to themselves "what would Jesus do?" and just not be sexist.

  • One thing to say.. um, Heck yes they should be allowed to join!!they finally allow women into Augusta National Golf Club!!Women are just as equal as men! sure, men are bigger and stronger and can hit a farther drive then a women! But that defintely does not mean they can not give these women a shot! i think people should look at men and women the same! i know these women can prove these sexist people that wouldnt let them in.. WRONG!! Thoughs were my views on this forum:)

  • It is dissapointing that the world is still this segregated, but im glad to see that its slowly changing.

  • That's great that they got in! i didn't think there was any other place on earth that still segregated genders/races until i found out about this and why I and a lot of other people hadn't found out about this sooner was because they were trying to keep it on the down low so no more protesters and newscasters got there and started to make their golf course seem like a horrible place.

  • I think clubs should be open to everyone. So I think it's a good idea to have this club open to both women and men.

  • im glad that they let women in but its not fair that they should be able to pick who goes because then they could just say who can go and then they get less money but if they let everybody in they get way more because every one can use it

  • Like I said during class today, they are acting like little kids w/ notes on their door saying no girls allowed. Why can't the regular everyday person join, sure they could do background checks, but is it that hard! It would be alright if they did not have a the Masters tournament, not sure if thats the name, because there are many women who love to golf and watch golf. I'm just happy that they finally figured out how controvesial it has become.

  • I think that is GREAT! The days of being seperate because of your sex, race, or creed can fianlly be put behind us.

  • I think it was great that women should be able to have their rights to be an Augusta member. It's good that they finally allowed the two women to join , because women have the same as much power as men.
