Attack on German Soccer Team

On April 11, at around 1 PM, 3 explosions went off near the bus carrying the German Soccer Team. One player, the center, Marc Barta received non life threatening injuries from the blasts. Initially, the medical report was not available. It was later released that he was treated for a broken arm and had shrapnel that needed to be removed.  With the motive unclear, officials found a letter near the crime scene but did not release the contents of the letter. The windows on the bus were either partially or completely destroyed. It is said that there will be a heavy police force at the quarterfinals game to ensure the safety of both the team and its fans.

Questions

1. If you were part of the team, how would you react after multiple explosions went off just outside your bus?

2. What would you do when you find out who planted the bombs?

My Opinion

If I was a part of the team and there were 3 blasts just outside my bus, I would either duck and protect my neck, or jump to the ground hoping that I don't get injured. When I found out who tried to kill me, I would be very upset and hope that the person or people were taken to court and sentenced to multiple years in prison.

  • Good summary but all of your comments were done on the 21st. Be sure to comment more frequently.

  • I would for sure be freaking out, because that would give me a sign that someone was out to hurt me and my teammates. While I was on the bus I would try to make sure I wasn't hurt and none of my teammates were hurt. I would be really upset if I found out that somebody planted the bombs. I think in this situation it could have been one of another teams fans and they were just trying to ruin their chances of beating another team.

    • I agree with you Abbie, it would be a very scary incident and I would react just like you. The first thing I would probably do is check on my teammates and make sure they are okay.

  • I would probably freak out and try to find a safe position/place. I would try to stay calm and help others as much as possible. It must be terrifying. I would be scared. When I find out who planted the bombs, I would hope they get caught and convicted. I would not try to get back at them. I would hope no one else would be targeting me.

    • Finding a safe place would be a great idea that way you know you wont get hurt. Staying calm is also a good idea that way you can think straight. I would for sure be terrified.

  • I would panic immediately and try to take cover so I would not get hurt. I would be extremely worried for my life and the life of my teammates on the bus. If I found out who planted the bombs I would try to get justice immediately. I would want that person to go to jail or get some kind of sentence for something like this. Planting bombs is a serious thing and whoever did it should be punished.

  • I am quite upset about this attack. First of all I know a lot of people supporting Borussia Dortmund because they are one of the best German soccer teams. If I were one of those players though I would be furious about the fact that the UEFA forced me and my teammates to play not even 24 hours after the attack and after we'd just experienced something such horrifying. If I would have been on that bus I would have tried to somehow duck, but I don't think you can do a whole lot in that situation. It probably happened way to fast. I would want the responsible people to be punished properly and I would try my best to assure that they would get behind bars.

    • I do not generally follow soccer, but apparently you know what your talking about. Ducking would be a good idea, that way you know you will be safe from the attacks.

  • If I was part of the team I would try to help others but also protect myself. If it was possible I would try to call for help to let them know what's going on. If I found out who planted it I would hope they have a good punishment because what they did was very dangerous.

  • I would be out raged by the act of terrorism on me and my team. To be honest this is another reason not to have mass immigration into your country because mass immigration leads to terrorism. I'm pretty sure it was Isis affiliates and just supports my view that we can not have mass immigration from terrorist related countries.
