On Friday November 5th, 8 people were killed and hundreds injured at Travis Scott's Astroworld music festival that was happening in Houston, Texas over this last weekend. The youngest that had there life taken at the Astroworld festival was 14 years old, and the oldest was only 27. The others that had there life taken were 16, two were 21, and two more were 23, and the other victim's age still remains unknown. 25 people were hospitalized that night, the youngest being only 10 years old. The authorities says that a lot of people appear to have been trampled, with over 50,000 people attending the festival. Houstan Mayor, Sylvester Turner did announce Saturday evening that luckily no people were missing.
People have been saying everything was fine before the event, but when the clock got closer to Travis coming onto stage, things got out of hand. "Once he started, all hell broke loose. All of what is to be 50,000 people ran to the front, compressing everyone together with the little air available." Alexis Guavin says. "Luckily, I have mosh pit experince and am six feet tall so I could at least put my head up to breathe, but other were not so fortunate."
The tragedy of Astroworld has been going viral on 'TikTok', sending prayers to the familys that lost family or have injured family members, and a lot of them have been hating on Travis Scott and showing other rappers caring about there fans, and Travis Scott paying no mind to it. However, some reports do say Travis Scott did stop his show twice, and did attempted to direct security to help them. People say Scott seemed like he was aware that something was happening in the crowd, but might not have known the full extent of what was happening. After 40 minutes the concert was canceled by Houston authorities and venue officals.
I think Travis could've done more for his fans, like other rappers have for there fans. However, I do feel like they did do the right thing canceling the festival. I do think it is very sad that 8 people did pass away or did get injured during his performance due to everyone trying to get closer to the stage, and that this could've been prevented if people just thought a little bit more about the situation.
Do you think Travis Scott could've done more for his fans?
Do you think Travis should've told his fans to help other fans if they needed help?
How do you feel about the events that happened at Astroworld?

Great topic choice and well written summary Bo! The issue is that you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points and it is one day late(-10).
I think that if Travis had even stopped his show for a little while then things would have not ended up the way they did. He could have stopped the show and helped his fans or gotten his fans to help eachother out. I think what had happened at astroworld was horrible and most likely could have been avoided.
I believe that everything that happend at Astroworld was Travis Scott's fault. He knew that the even was overbooked and could have clearly seen that the festival was overcrowded. I've recently seen a video that shows a fan shouting to him that people are dying and they need help. Instead, Travis decided to continue the show and showed no empathy. I'm sure many people have seen the video he put out saying that he was saddened by the deaths of his fans. I feel as though he wasn't as sincere as he was trying to make people think he was. Travis had the power to stop the show and start getting his fans help. If he truly cared about his fans, he would have done anything he could in his power.
I strongly believe that Travis Scott should have just ended the concert. I believe that he showed no maturity and did not care about anyone a single bit. Travis Scott is not stupid, he knew the damage that was being done but neglected to face it. I think that Travis should have made the fans help eachother out, but also he should've done something about it. I strongly find it sickening because of the damage that was done. It is not normal for 9 people to die at a concert due to the lack of safety check. Although Travis may be sorry now, he should have been mature and dealt with it at the time. I understand the pressure he probably felt about performing and giving what the people paid for, but I still think someones life is much more important than a good concert.
I think that Travis Scott could've just stopped preforming untill people settled down. I also think that Travis Scott should've taken the time to see what was happening and he could of then told his fans to help other fans. I really didn't know what had happened other then people were killed untill now, but it is still sad that people had to die at the cost of people getting closer to Travis Scott.
It's funny to think that we haven't learned since Woodstock '99. Music event such as these with mosh pits create environments that make people feel invincible -- but several factors were at play. First, it was one of the first major musical events since the COVID-19 pandemic, and people, of course, became quite rowdy. Another reason that this happened was that the crowd swelled towards the stage in anticipation of Travis Scott coming out on stage. By doing this, people began to drown on dry land, much like what happened in Woodstock '99. The worst part is the lack of empathy on his part. Simply replying 45 minutes after learning the fact that your fans are dying and having cardiac arrests in the crowd by saying, "Oh, I've heard that some people are passing out and stuff" is truly what makes this entire event horrific.
I think that he could have done more for the people however he was expecteed to preform a show and he would have had a lot of presure on him to preform a good show. He also could have thought that it was not as bad as it was and just blew it off because he thought it was not a big deal.
He knew about what was going on 30 minutes before he went on stage, and was told multiple times throughout the set what was going on. A girl even climbed on stage and tried to tell him to stop, but his security guards threatened to push her off. He did nothing to stop the show and kept rapping even though people were dying right in front of him. I'm sickened by what happened and the reports of survivors are horrifying to read.
I think he could have done more for his fans. He could have stoped the concert himself and tried to help those that were injured or helped keep others away from the scene. It is also very sad that the crowd was telling him to stop the concert and he wouldnt.
I think that there is more he can do for his fans, like covering funeral costs and stuff like that, or even just apologizing. I also think that once he noticed that people were getting hurt, he should have stopped the concert and got people to help the fans who were injured.
