1. What happened on 9-11-01 in detail.
On September 11, 2001, there were four attacks that were coordinated with targets in New York City and Washington D.C. There were 19 terorists and four passenger jets. The terorists intentionaly crashed two planes into the Twin Towers. Both of the towers collapsed within two hours. A third plane was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. In the fourth plane the passengers tried to take control of the plane. It ended up crashing in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. al-Qaeda was blamed quickley.
Planes that were selected were long flights because they would be highly fueled. American Airlines Flight 11 crashed at 8:46 a.m. in to the World Trade Center's North Tower. The South Tower was hit by United Airlines Flight 175 at 9:03 a.m. The Pentagon was hit at 9:37 a.m. by the American Airlines Flight 77. Flight 93's target was either the Capitol or the White House, but it crashed at 10:03 a.m. in Shanksville, Pensylvania. There were a total of nineteen highjackers. 2,977 people were killed in the attacks.
Clean up was finished in May of 2002. One of the World Trade Centers is probably going to be done by 2013. The Pentagon took one year to repair. The National September 11 Memorial and Museum is scheduled to open on September 11 of this year.
2. What do you remember about that day?
I was in kindergarden at SCCS. I don't remember anything except that when I got home the TV was on with the same thing on over and over and over.
My dad was in a grain bin putting in dryer floor. Dad went home for dinner and watched tv and found out what the real impact was.
My mom was home with my sister. Her sister, LeAnn, called her and told my mom what had happened. LeAnn was sent home from work immediately because she was working on the computers at NORAD in Colorado Springs, Colorado. No one knew exactly what was happening, so most government non-essential personal were sent home. Mom turned on the tv and couldn't believe what was happening. It was a very scary day.
3. Who was responsible for the attack and why did they do this?
Osama Bin Laden was overall resposible for the attacks. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi bin al-Shibh are also belived to have organized the attackes. They planned to attack nuclear installations rather than the World Trade Center, but in the end the pilots had the final decision.
4. What did the US do in response to the attack?
The US invaded Iraq, launched a ten year hunt for Osama Bin Laden and killed him, and delcared war against the Talaban.
